Head Start Assistant Cook-Washington County

Assistant Cook performs semi-skilled work in preparing and cooking a variety of meals and snacks for 200 plus Head Start children. Work involves preparing and cooking a wide variety of foods, some of which may require special techniques and care to reduce costs and serve properly. Position requires frequent travel and providing substitute service throughout program, as needed.

Location: Washington County

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Prepare and cook a variety of food from menu using standard cooking equipment. Continuously checks and monitors quality of food being prepared.

• Deliver prepared meals to Head Start sites. Support single cite classrooms with food prep and cleanup. Review meal delivery records.

• Participate in kitchen cleaning work and keep a sanitized and orderly kitchen environment.

• Serve as first contact when sub is needed in Iron or Washington County.

• Participates with Head Cook, Nutrition Coordinator, consultants, parents and teachers in meal planning.

• Deep cleaning: appliances and service items.

• Clean: cupboards, condiment bottles, carts, inside of transport van.

• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

• Must have valid driver's license.

Education Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

• Food Handlers permit is required, can be completed once hired, if necessary.
