Assistant Electrics Director - USF
The Assistant Electrics Director is responsible for managing the entertainment networks for lighting, audio and video, maintaining & keeping equipment up to date, installing systems and equipment as needed and maintaining audio/video/stage communication systems for the Utah Shakespeare Festival (USF). The individual is responsible for supporting our production season through configuration of systems, supporting Video Designers in carrying out the production design, and for providing audio, video, and communications support for all related productions and events. This position will assist in the supervision of seasonal Electrics Department employees. There may be an opportunity for occasional design work.
The successful candidate will be a self-motivated individual with proven experience in professional theatre who displays a great deal of creativeness in problem solving and troubleshooting. This position reports to the Electrics Director for USF productions and the Production Manager for externally produced events and productions, and is responsible for implementing standards and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Adheres to all SUU and USF policies and procedures:
a. Enforces policies and operations for a clean, healthy and safe workplace.
b. Completes SUU required training.

Collaborates with other USF, SUU and outside entities, directors and designers:
a. Acts as the liaison for outside users of USF electrics department equipment, including technical support.
b. Coordinates with other production departments on the build schedule and production needs.
c. Attends all production, department, and staff meetings. Attends technical rehearsals as needed.

Assist with the safe and efficient supervision and implementation of all live performance for USF, under the direction of the Electrics Director, and outside users of facilities with USF equipment, under the direction of the Production Manager:
a. Responsible for the timely execution of all network and video needs for productions. Work with video designers for USF to realize each design, conveying inventory, system information and applicable details.
b. Serve as a video supervisor when such technology is required for USF production(s).
c. Serve as technical support for USF electrics related equipment and systems.
d. Administer check in and check out of electrics' equipment to 3rd party users.

Assist with the training and supervision of electric's department staff:
a. Develop staff skills and efficiency, serving in training, supervisory and mentor roles in the sound and video technology areas. b. Plan and supervise the efficient and safe installation, operations and dismantling of lighting, video and audio equipment and systems during load-in, technical and dress rehearsals, previews, performances and load-outs of all productions.
c. Ensure all staff working in the electrics department use all tools and materials safely, and use appropriate protection equipment. Provide training if necessary.

Participate in all maintenance, repair and upgrade of lighting/sound/video equipment and facilities:
a. Includes inventory, project tracking, improvements, maintenance schedules, safety and security of equipment.
b. Maintain all files including equipment and supply inventories in Snipe-IT or similar databases, system configuration in audio and video processors or similar equipment, software licenses for audio and video, software updates in audio and video, and video project tracking.
c. Participate in troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of video, audio, and lighting equipment, infrastructure and networks.
d. Repair and maintain all IP stage communications systems; sound equipment, audio/video monitoring, and paging systems.
e. Assist with electrics department projects and special assignments when required.
f. Coordinat s research and development on materials and mechanics needed for productions.
g. Maintain familiarity with industry standard technology. Research and recommend upgrades and capital acquisitions where appropriate.

Performs other duties as assigned and agreed upon.
Education and Experience Requirements:
• B.A./B.S or BFA in Theatre Technology with an emphasis in audio engineering/sound design and/or at least three years professional practical experience or a minimum of five or more years professional practical experience in live theatre and/or IT services.
• Practical knowledge in basic electronics and comprehensive understanding of digital audio, audio and video over Ethernet required; User datagram or open sound control protocols; and RTSP, SDI and NDI protocols.
• Practical experience with repair and maintenance of amplifiers, loudspeakers, analog and digital consoles, DAW and playback
software/computers, cable and theatrical audio systems and equipment.
• Must have experience with Ethernet topology.
• Must have working knowledge and be able to program Yamaha audio consoles, DSP and Symetrix DSP and familiarity with equipment and operating systems currently in place.
• Possess Audinate and Symetrix certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of taking position with support from USF
• Candidates must have knowledge and experience in the specific requirements and conventions of theatrical productions including standard rigging practices, production communication systems, and digital editing and recording systems. Must have proven experience in live mixing and reinforcement of both plays and musicals.
• Must have video production experience including, but not limited to: edge blending, projector stacking, and telnet protocol.
• Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Dante Controller, VectorWorks or AutoCad, Logic, QLab, Reaper, Isadora.
• Excellent time and resource management skills.
• Must have the ability to multi-task, work under deadlines and prioritize tasks.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills essential.
• Excellent supervisory, organizational and interpersonal skills required.
• Physically capable of handling job requirements including climbing ladders to a 60' height and lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Possess electrical troubleshooting skills.
