The ideal candidate, under general supervision, performs a variety of heavy, physical work in the maintenance and repair of streets, drains, parks, and related facilities. On-call emergency response work is required as a result of various types of damage. Weekend work and after-hour work is required at times for City events, projects or emergencies. Grounds work experience is highly desirable.

Training and Experience:

Any combination of training and experience which demonstrates an ability to perform the duties of the position. A typical qualifying entrance background is experience performing varied street maintenance and construction, or closely related work.

Street Maintenance Worker I:

Graduation from high school or equivalent, and equivalent to 12 months (full-time equivalent) experience performing general maintenance, including at least six months (full-time equivalent) manual labor experience involving the use of hand tools and portable power tools.

License or Other Requirements:

Possession of an ability to maintain a valid Class “C” California driver’s license. Incumbents must be willing to work mandatory overtime when required; may be required to work nights, weekends and holidays as required in emergency situations.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS

The following information is provided to give you a helpful overview, along with our expectations and requirements during the recruitment process:

  1. Application Review: A completed City of Cathedral City employment application and copy of high school diploma is required. Incomplete applications may result in disqualification. Application review will begin immediately and will be screened on basis of relevant education, training and experience.

  2. Examination Phase: Based upon the information presented on the application, a limited number of candidates who possess qualifications most pertinent to the position will be invited to participate in the selection process. The selection process may include but is not limited to the following components: application review and evaluation, written examination or exercise, practice exercise and interview evaluation.

  3. Establishment of Eligibility List: Candidates who successfully complete the examination process will be placed on the eligibility list pending further review by the department head and other qualifying procedures.

    WHAT CATHEDRAL CITY HAS TO OFFER
