American Tower Senior Engineer, Broadcast Solutions and Engineering in Cary, North Carolina

The Team

We are seeking a Senior Engineer, Broadcast Solutions and Engineering (“BSE”) to join American Tower’s U.S. Tower division’s Network Engineering & Technology Solutions team. The Senior Engineer is the primary technical resource for interfacing with customers to understand and develop solutions for their requirements. You will play a central role in articulating to customers the technical and business values of broadcast solution offerings. Day-to-day responsibilities include end-to-end ownership of tasks such as developing broadband broadcast antenna (“BBA”) designs and deployment plans, implementing solutions, evaluating capacities of BBA systems, interference management, and analyzing the impacts of FCC rule changes. You will support internal and external resources and work collaboratively with them to develop and execute strategies to grow the Company’s broadcast business.

What You Need To Succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree in either Electrical Engineering or a related field required.

  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience required.

  • A minimum of 4 years RF engineering experience that directly involved the end-to-end implementation of broadcast RF systems (design, installation, performance, and monitoring) highly preferred.

  • Knowledge of various broadcast system components ( e.g ., antenna, transmission line, combiner, etc .) required.

  • Strong critical thinking skills, with a proven capability to work well both independently and with others to solve problems.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present ideas and suggestions clearly and effectively.

  • Approximately 25% travel may be required to support the position’s responsibilities.

  • Strong organizational and planning skills; ability to prioritize duties and function effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to work with different functional groups and levels of employees to achieve results effectively and professionally.

  • Able to cultivate a collaborative a team dynamic that enables the Company to meet business objectives.

What You Can Offer Us

  • Serve as a technical resource for broadcast customers; understand their RF requirements and coverage objectives.

  • Develop preliminary solutions to support customers’ technical requirements and develop budgetary costs.

  • Consult with customers to develop comprehensive requirements and scopes of work.

  • Work with external RF consultants and/or vendors to fine-tune and optimize solutions and/or designs to achieve desired coverage objectives.

  • Manage original equipment manufacturer vendors (“OEMs”) to deliver equipment in accordance with outlined specifications.

  • Establish power budgets and determine each customer’s combiner input powers; evaluate capacities of existing BBA systems.

  • Develop broadcast system and monitoring specifications.

  • Evaluate OEMs’ solution offerings and determine best fits for requirements.

  • Support the Sales team during customer meetings with technical presentation preparation and delivery.

  • Act as a subject matter expert on technical matters related to existing and emerging technologies (e.g., ATSC 3.0, NextGen TV).

  • Facilitate timely, effective customer communications through regular meetings, reporting, site visits, and conference calls.

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and provide regular status updates and progress reports to customers and management. Compile and maintain all project documentation in accordance with internal policies and procedures.

  • Participate in special projects and initiatives and provide progress reports to management.

  • Other duties as assigned.
