Jacobs Mechanical Engineering Intern (Energy/Power) - Summer 2025 in Cary, North Carolina

We’re seeking Mechanical Engineering Interns to join our Energy & Power team across the country. You’ll have the opportunity to use your theoretical knowledge and apply it to solving today’s challenges.

As part of our team, you’ll have the chance to work on projects that bring innovative solutions to our clients’ challenges locally and worldwide by providing a range of engineering services. The energy industry is undergoing rapid and dramatic changes, transforming the utility landscape to enhance reliability and sustainability. In response, Jacobs is expanding its Energy & Power Solutions team to tackle the complexities of decarbonization and deliver a cleaner and more secure energy future. During your internship, you will be mentored by Professional Engineers while you engage with our clients, evaluate their energy needs, and develop concept-level plans and solutions. We offer and deliver a true "end-to-end" life-cycle service from exploration, development, operation, and repowering/retirement. Your primary responsibilities will focus on supporting engineering calculations, construction drawings, and specifications for energy and power projects. Specific tasks will include piping and equipment sizing, stress analysis, flow modeling, energy analysis, and life cycle cost evaluations, and other detailed engineering calculations. You’ll also take ownership of the completeness, accuracy and timeliness of the work assigned to you by demonstrating the ability to progress from basic design work assignments to more complicated and involved projects working in conjunction with a technical team.

Prior design or consulting internships are highly regarded.   • Currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program for Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline from an ABET- accredited program

Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • Familiarity or experience with:

  • 3D modeling software such as Revit, AutoCAD, CADWorx and NavisWorks

  • hydraulic modeling software such as Pipe-Flo or Pipe 2000

  • systems modeling software such as Thermoflow or Aspen/Hysys
