MetLife IT Portfolio Management Lead - PMO Consultant in Cary, North Carolina

Role Value Proposition:

We are seeking an experienced Portfolio Management Lead to support the management and optimization of our IT portfolios. The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of knowledge in lean portfolio management, extensive experience in IT agile delivery, and a proven track record of delivering value through effective governance practices. This role will be instrumental in driving strategic initiatives and agile maturity, ensuring the alignment of portfolio investments with our business objectives. Additionally, the Portfolio Management Lead will work closely with line of business VMO teams to operationalize enterprise standards and report on portfolio outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Portfolio Management: Oversee the management of the company’s IT portfolios, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and financial targets.

  • Governance: Establish and manage governance policies and procedures across our IT portfolios.

  • Transformational Leadership: Drive transformational change by leading initiatives to adopt best practices in portfolio management and governance. Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Collaboration: Partner closely with senior executives and other stakeholders to provide leadership and guidance on portfolio management and governance practices. Collaborate with line of business VMO teams to operationalize enterprise standards.

  • Change Management: Act as a change agent to implement Lean Portfolio Management and other Agile practices throughout the organization.

  • Value Management Office Responsibilities: Lead Value Management Office (VMO) teams by ensuring that the portfolio management processes are aligned with business value delivery. Oversee the prioritization and management of the value stream to ensure maximum ROI.

  • Scaled Agile Enterprise: Operate effectively within a scaled agile enterprise, leveraging frameworks such as SAFe to ensure the smooth integration of agile practices across the organization.

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

Required:

  • Experience: 7+ years of experience in portfolio management, IT agile delivery, and program governance within a complex, matrixed organization.

  • Leadership: Proven experience in leading and transforming portfolio management processes and practices.

  • Scaled Agile Expertise: Extensive experience operating in a scaled agile enterprise, particularly with SAFe frameworks.

  • Value Management: Deep understanding and experience with the responsibilities of a Value Management Office (VMO).

  • Communication: Superior communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to influence and drive consensus at all levels of the organization.

  • Problem Solving: Ability to navigate and manage uncertainty, juggle competing priorities, and deliver results.

Preferred:* Certification: SAFe certification, ideally SPC (SAFe Program Consultant) certification.

  • Software Tools: Experience utilizing agile software and enterprise portfolio management tools such as Targetprocess and Azure DevOps.
