Description
Carson City's Parks and Recreation holds a before and after-school recreational enrichment program for children in Kindergarten through 5th grade called Capital Kids. The program is held at Carson City public elementary schools and observes the School District holiday calendar. The program is designed to provide children with creative structure while their parents work. Recreational activities such as arts and crafts, sports, games, enrichment programs, STEAM, special events, and homework assistance provide the basis of the program. Programs are licensed by Nevada Child Care Licensing.
This is a non-exempt, part-time position, not to exceed 1039 work hours in a fiscal year, in which the employee performs a variety of routine tasks in support of the Carson City Youth Programs.

Examples of Duties

- Organize, monitor, and participate in recreation and learning activities suitable for children between the ages of 5 and 13 years of age.
- Prepares needed suppliesforactivities, setting up prior to an activity and cleaning up after the activity.
- Carry out plans for activity. Treat participants appropriately and properly.Usepositivemonitoringtechniques.
- Ensure that the facility and equipment used are clean and in proper working condition.
- Maintain daily attendance records for each participant; contact parents according to established protocols.
- Maintain an organized and orderly work atmosphere.
- React immediately, calmly and effectively to situations and employ established techniques to resolve issues.
- Perform cleaning duties as assigned.
- Perform related duties as assigned by Recreation Aide Lead or Recreation Aide Supervisor.
- Perform all duties in a safe manner.
Typical Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and Experience: Must be at least fifteen (15) years of age at date of hire, and have either paid or volunteer experience working with children between 5 and 13 years of age; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources. In addition, must possess or be able to obtain required certifications for area of employment within one month of employment and be willing to participate in water activities and be in water up to four (4) feet deep.
SPECIAL NOTE:This position, along with other child care providers, are one of many groups of professionals required to report known or reasonable suspicion of abuse and/or neglect of children in their care and are considered mandated reporters as outlined in Nevada Revised Statutes.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LI ENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:
- Current CPR Certification or must obtain within one (1) month of employment.
- Current First Aid Certificationor must obtain within one (1) month of employment.
- Must complete Mandated Reporting: Recognizing Child Abuse and Neglect within one (1) month of employment.
