Description

This is a FLSA, non-exempt position with Carson City Health and Human Services located in Carson City, NV.Under general supervision, perform public/community health nursing services in clinics, homes and in the community; and to provide community and client centered counseling, education and information concerning illnesses.

Salary Ranges Employer-Paid PERS:$30.1987 - $45.2977 hourly / $62,813.40 - $94,219.32 annually Employee/Employer-Paid PERS:$35.8393 - $53.7588 hourly / $74,545.64 - $111,818.20 annually

  • Provide health related counseling on the prevention of communicable diseases; coordinate health programs with outside organizations and agencies; introduce general health related information and instruction to individuals, families and community groups.
  • Administer a variety of pre-examination tests including skin tests, blood tests, and other tests used in determining communicable disease; provide information and education to patients before and after tests as necessary.
  • Assess and evaluate patients response to treatment and medication.
  • Advise patients on available and appropriate medical and social services available.
  • Keep accurate patient records; maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the areas of disease prevention and treatment, chronic diseases.
  • Compile and submit necessary medical/statistical reports and data in a timely fashion.
  • Apply basic time management and patient care coordination skills to effectively provide nursing and health care services.
  • Assist in research and investigation of communicable diseases when requested.
  • Assist with medical emergencies; administer first aid for minor injuries and health problems.
  • Keep accur te patient records regarding immunizations and prescribed dosages of medications; maintain and update files as necessary to include: changes, weight, and medical history.
  • Contributes to the overall quality of the department's service provision by developing and coordinating work teams and by reviewing, recommending and implementing improved policies and procedures.
  • Uses standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of the work.
  • Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with patients, family members, visitors, and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
Typical Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and Experience: Associates degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in nursing; AND two (2) years of nursing experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:

  • Valid Drivers License.
  • Nevada State Registered Nursing License.
  • CPR certification within one (1) month of date of employment.
  • Complete ICS 100, 200 and 700 within six (6) months of date of employment.

Required Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of:

  • Principles, procedures, methods, and techniques of nursing practice.
  • Principles and procedures of medical record keeping.
  • Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes, and regulations regarding health care.
  • Universal precautions and infection control practices.
  • Medical Terminology.
  • Principles and procedures of medical record keeping.
  • Principles and procedures of medical report preparation.
  • Computer applications related to the work.
  • Business mathematics, including statistics and financial analysis techniques.
  • Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals, at all levels of responsibility, in person and over the telephone, often where relations may be confrontational or strained.

Performing general physical examinations and systematically assessing the health status of persons and families.

Interviewing patients prior to examinations in order to assess and determine their medical history, background and health status.

Educating patients on a variety of health care related issues.

Preparing, performing, and reviewing laboratory tests.

Providing responsible health and nursing care, including health education.

Properly preparing and administering immunizations and prescribed medications.

Responding to emergency situations which may include a bioterrorism event.

Administer first aid.
