Salary Range : $84,800 - $127,200 Annual

The stated pay range is based on a national-average location. Actual salary is determined by factors including relevant work experience, skills and location. This position is bonus eligible.

CNO Financial Group is hiring Counsel as a junior attorney to provide a full range of legal support and advice for the Enterprise Operations team and other business areas by researching and analyzing issues/laws, drafting legal opinions and counseling business partners on application of regulatory requirements to the business' practices.

This is your opportunity to participate in projects with other areas of the Legal Department to provide support and guidance regarding regulatory and/or compliance issues applicable to various business areas.

As Counsel, your responsibilities will include:

  • Assist with identifying compliance issues, analyzing facts and applying appropriate laws, regulations and legal standards to provide counsel to company directors, managers, supervisors and associates. This includes providing legal counsel regarding:

  • Policy interpretation, claims processes, and processing individual claims

  • Potential policy rescissions

  • Individual and group underwriting processes for life and health policies

  • Policyholder complaints

  • Attorney, consumer and regulatory inquiries and complaints, including negotiating with outside parties to resolve potential legal actions.

  • Perform routine and as-needed legal research of appropriate laws, regulations and standards that are applicable to insurance industry and general business operations and keeps compliance reference documentation up-to-date.

  • Develop relationships with business partners, and other areas of the Legal Department to facilitate open communication across multiple levels of management.

  • Respond promptly to requests for legal advice from various business areas while performing thorough legal analysis of a wide variety of issues, presenting potential risks and mitigation and legal recommendations for actionable resolution of an issue.

  • Staying up to date on, and effectively communicate new legal and regulatory developments related to insurance policy and claim administration and financial institutions.

The Counsel position is well-suited for you if you:

  • Possess a good understanding and knowledge of legal principles; familiarity with insurance products and financial institution regulations is preferred.

  • Hold the ability to offer actionable legal advice at the speed of business.

  • Have practical experience in contracting and solid knowledge of commercial, contract and privacy law is preferred.

  • Are client service orientation, with high emotional intelligence is required.

What you’ll need:

  • Juris Doctorate degree required; licensed to practice law in at least one jurisdiction.

  • 1-3 years of related experience.
