This position is responsible for….

The Vice President, Engineering oversees global (US and MX) product development, value engineering, sustaining engineering, and research & development teams. S/He is responsible for driving innovation and growth through the development of new products, product improvements, and groundbreaking technologies from concept through design, validation, and production. This role focuses on cost reduction and efficiency gains through value engineering, while also maintaining the product portfolio through sustaining engineering. Additionally, S/He leads the Research and Design (R&D) strategy to ensure the company remains at the forefront of innovation, manages the R&D project portfolio, and ensures regulatory compliance and intellectual property protection. S/He ensures seamless collaboration with manufacturing to resolve design issues for both new and established products, and fosters a culture of continuous improvement and cross-functional collaboration. S/He also applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and will be called upon to be a corporate representative to present to key customers.

Your day will be very busy… you will:

  • Develop and lead the long-term Research and Design (R&D) engineering vision and strategy, aligning with the company's overall business goals driving innovation and maintaining competitive advantage.

  • Oversee the development of groundbreaking products that provide a competitive edge in the market.

  • Manage the R&D engineering project portfolio, prioritizing initiatives that align with strategic objectives and ensuring the efficient use of resources.

  • Develop and implement strategies for protecting and leveraging intellectual property, including patents, trademarks, and trade secrets for company products.

  • Drive continuous improvement in R&D, product development, value engineering, and sustaining processes engineering processes, methodologies, and technologies to increase efficiency and innovation.

  • Forge and maintain strategic partnerships with academic institutions, research organizations, and industry leaders to enhance the company’s R&D engineering capabilities.

  • Serve as a key member of the senior leadership team, providing insights and direction on R&D engineering initiatives and their impact on the company’s future.

  • Oversees the design and sprint review processes related to new product development, value engineering, and sustaining engineering working with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, engineering, quality, marketing, finance, and sales to ensure that projects are completed on-time, on budget and with quality.

  • Responsible for establishing and achieving the annual operating budget for the engineering department.

  • Leads and participates in design and sprint reviews to ensure products meet design specifications, functionality, and quality standards.

  • Provides feedback and guidance to design teams to refine and improve product designs as required.

  • Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering tasks, creates resource plans for completion of tasks, and tracks progress as needed.

  • Participates in the cross functional product development roadmap planning process ensuring alignment with the company long term strategy.

  • Partners with Marketing leadership to determine and define product strategies including new products, product improvements, product alterations, and processes based on the Voice of the Customer (VOC).

  • Partners with Strategic Sourcing to drive cost and efficiencies gains across the product portfolio with raw material and finished goods suppliers.

  • Ensures department consistently complies with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and regulatory requirements pertaining to the development of medical devices.

  • Actively spearheads new product development projects, taking ownership of specific projects from concept to market release while balancing leadership responsibilities.

  • Responsible for detailed cost analysis of proposed products and projects.

  • Performs strategic project management overview as required by leading a team in the definition, planning, design, testing, documentation, validation and manufacture of new products.

  • Provides additional engineering leadership to the Value and Manufacturing Engineering teams.

  • Leadership responsibilities include the selection, development, performance management and continuous recalibration of staff; ensures appropriate staffing levels and resource allocation; performs administrative tasks associated with planning, assigning and directing work, timekeeping, pay, performance, policy administration and other matters related to employment.

  • Assesses staff and provides timely and consistent feedback regarding technical proficiency and effectiveness. Provides constructive feedback, recognition, guidance, and reinforcement to employees regarding job performance. Works with staff to identify work goals and create individual development plans. Evaluates training programs to ensure content meets staff needs.

    What your background will be:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field is required. Advanced technical degree in mechanical or bioengineering is preferred.

  • 10+ years related design engineering experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

  • 10+ years’ experience in management and coordination of a technical staff required and project leadership experience is required.

  • 10+ years of budgetary preparation and management is required.

  • Ability to develop and write both product development and business reports and correspondence relating to a broad range of functional activities is required.

    Salary Range

$275,000.00 - $300,000.00
