Cisco Senior Technical Product Manager- Optics in Carlsbad, California

The Common Hardware Group (CHG) delivers the silicon, optics, and hardware platforms for Cisco’s core Switching, Routing, and Wireless products. Our products account for approximately ¾ of Cisco’s product revenue. With 2,100 employees across 16 countries, we design the networking hardware for Enterprises and Service Providers of various sizes, the Public Sector, and Non-Profit Organizations across the world.

What You'll Do

The Senior Product Manager for Optics defines and implements the product line strategy for the company, including product roadmap and requirements, marketing strategy and focus and long-term planning. This position manages the product through its lifecycle, from development to launch, sampling, volume production and end-of-life. The Product Manager works closely with R&D on the product definition, with Sales on strategy and customer engagement, and with Operations on short and long-term forecasting.

Responsibilities include:

  • Contribute to product line roadmap and new product pipeline.

  • Help develop and drive execution of product roadmap and product strategy to be in line with corporate strategy and business goals.

  • Manage products through entire product lifecycle from kick-off through to end of life

  • Drive cross functional core product team.

  • Provide insight to management on major market/customer changes, business outlook, potential risks, and resource constraints.

  • Develop product price strategy and support quoting process.

  • Propose and initiate cost reduction programs to improve profitability of the product line.

  • Provide product requirements and priorities to R&D for new product development.

  • Develop and maintains key customer contacts.

  • Support sales team on customer engagements, including technical and business support on new product qualifications.

Who You'll Work With

You will be working with a world-class team of highly skilled product managers and applications engineers. All have a strong educational background ranging from a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering to a PhD Electrical Engineering as well as industry experience working with Optics and Electronics. You will also collaborate with cross functional teams within Cisco and external companies and customers.

Who You Are

You possess strong communication skills, both written and spoken. You’re a self-starter capable of taking initiative and seeing tasks through with the ability to work in a fast paced, project oriented, team environment. Additionally, you have outstanding external and internal customer-facing skills, which are crucial for building and maintaining excellent relationships with clients and team members.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics, or relevant degree + 12 years of tech industry experience.

  • 5+ years of Product Management experience.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Applications: Power Point, Excel, Word.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics, or relevant degree + 8 years of tech industry experience.

  • Electronics or optics design experience.

  • Optics industry experience.

  • Experience with Silicon Photonics.
