Summary Description:
The Microbiologist plans and directs activities concerned with the development, application, and maintenance of quality standards for industrial processes, materials, and products. Develops and initiates microbial standards and methods for inspection, testing and evaluations. This role is also heavily involved with monthly GMP audits and Brittle Plastics and Glass audits.
Essential Functions:
Ability to communicate change effectively and build a commitment to overcome resistance to change. Monitors transition and evaluates results.

Maintain an effective knowledge of our company financial, budget and operational goals.
Evaluate micro-testing results.
Identify and implement process improvements.
Collaboration with Quality and Production Supervisors.
Responsible for verification of micro data and results.
Manage and train microbiology analyst.
Responsible for further testing of positive micro results and follow up.
Responsible for shipment of lab samples for 3rd party testing.
Responsible for special orders for customer specifications.
Acting plant Chemist and Hygienist.
Responsible for Food Quality.
Performs plating of samples per customer requirements.
Performs air and water samples plating at prescribed frequency.
Performs sugar samples plating at prescribed frequency.
Keeps Microbiology records in proper log book for review and log results into RealSPC.
Packs and sends samples out per customer request.
Maintains the equipment needed for Microbiology tests.
Maintains inventory for Microbiology Lab.
Issues product releases as instructed by Management.
Communicates with the supplier to resolve quality issues.
Reports food safety and quality problems to Plant Management and SQFP to initiate action
Performs other duties as requested by Management.
Provide effective planning, organizing and prioritizing project skills.
Required Skills and Competencies:
RealSPC experience is preferred.
Ability to read, comprehend and follow complex written instructions.
Critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Strong communication and written skills.
Experience in laboratory environment is preferred.
Must be a self-starter and able to work without close supervision.
Willingness and ability to work in a team environment.
Ability to understand different units of measure and record information.
Good safety knowledge and safety record.
A collaborative and flexible style, with a strong service mentality.
Possess strong diplomacy and conflict resolution skills.
Ability to respond effectively and appropriately to sensitive inquiries or complaints.
Proven experience with best practices and quality.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Science (B.Sc.) from a four year college or university is required.
RealSPC experience is preferred.
Experience in laboratory environment is preferred
Working Conditions:
Physical-Continuously standing or walking.
Visual/Sensory-This position requires regular need to give moderate attention with one or two senses at a time.
Work environment- Work and environment are very repetitive.
Mental Stress- There is pronounced pressure from deadlines, production quotas, accuracy or similar demands.
