Axient is seeking a part time Explosive Safety Inspector located at Cape Canaveral Space Force Base, FL to support the Pad Safety inspection program which meets the requirements of DoD Std 6055.9 (Explosives Safety Standards), AFI 91-201(USAF Explosives Standards), AFI 91-202 (The US Air Force Mishap Prevention Plan), 45 SWI 91-203, 45 SWI 91-204, EWR 127-1, AFSPC Manual 91-710, 29 CFR 1910.119, and 40 CFR 68. These requirements include the use of routine/ reoccurring, special, and spot level inspections and tests to ensure a sound safety posture for Range operating facilities.

What you will do...

• Perform Explosive Spot Inspections and Annual Explosive Safety Inspections with a focus on special interest areas identified through trending deficiencies. These spot inspections should NOT be routinely scheduled, but rather should occur as often as needed, depending upon a facility’s priority determined through trending. Inspections can be conducted during normal day-to-day operations, and an effort should also be made to conduct inspections during second and third shifts whenever possible.

• Perform inspections in conjunction with hazardous operations as part of the pre-operational checks.

• Perform Follow-up inspections within thirty (30) days to ensure corrective action has been taken by the responsible facility POC for any noted deficiencies.

• Provide additional comments annotated on the inspection checklist, to include amplifying information and deficiency resolution. Each section will need to include the number of spot inspections performed and the number of deficiencies found in the Monthly Activities Report for their section (by entry into SSMIS monthly metrics page).

• Forward completed spot inspection checklists to the Explosives Section for filing and the development of Quarterly Safety Council metrics.

• During the performance of any inspection, the identification of any imminently dangerous situation will be cause for work cessation, removal of equipment from service and the immediate notification of the responsible organization. Lesser discrepancies will only require notification of the GPM and Range User, as well as, discrepancy tracking actions.

• Perform explosives safety inspections in accordance with AFI 91-202 and documented using the SLD 45/SEW provided database. Conduct explosives safety spot inspections at the direction of the Chief of Safety (currently a minimum of three spot inspections per month).

Skills you will need...

Minimum Requirements:

• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in explosives (military or government)

• High School Diploma

• Must be able to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance. Must be able to maintain the required clearance.

• Understanding of Net Explosive Weights (NEW)

• Experience with explosive arcs

• Understanding of DoD Std 6055.9 (Explosives Safety Standards)

• Experience with performing explosive safety inspections

Desired Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree

• Active or Current DoD security clearance at the required level.

• EOD experience

• Understanding of AFI 91-201(USAF Explosives Standards), AFI 91-202 (The US Air Force Mishap Prevention Plan), 45 SWI 91-203, 45SWI 91-204, EWR 127-1, AFSPC Manual 91-710, 29 CFR 1910.119, and 40 CFR 68

• Understanding of lightning Protection Systems and requirements.
