Axiom Engineered Systems, LLC Backup Lead in Capac, Michigan

The Backup Lead Hand plays a key role in supporting the efficient operation of the production floor. In the absence of the Lead Hand, this position oversees daily manufacturing activities, including coordinating production schedules, leading a team of operators, and ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and efficiency standards. The Backup Lead Hand collaborates closely with Quality Inspectors and Technical Teams, including Maintenance, Automation, and Process, to ensure smooth and effective shift operations. This role also includes providing break relief as required, ensuring uninterrupted workflow.
Backup Leadership: Acts as the backup to the Lead Hand during their absence (ie vacation, illness, meetings), ensuring the smooth operation of the shift and continuity of leadership.
Leadership and Motivation: Serves as a role model by upholding departmental standards, motivating, and supporting production personnel. Assists team members with tasks such as verifying labels, packaging boxes, and other duties as needed.
Production Efficiency: Ensures production schedules are followed and executed efficiently, focusing on achieving key performance indicators (KPIs) such as 85% OEE, a scrap rate below 1.5%, and zero accidents.
Resource Management: Optimizes labor and material usage to minimize waste and scrap while ensuring material handlers deliver all necessary materials, components, and packaging.
Onboarding and Training: Assists the Lead Hand with new hire orientation, coordinates training, and supports the buddy system for both permanent and temporary employees.
Production Reporting: Completes and ensures timely submission of production data using systems such as Prism and LPA.
Quality Collaboration: Collaborates with Quality Inspectors and Engineers to address and resolve quality-related issues effectively.
Shift Reporting: Assists with preparing and emailing detailed daily shift reports.
Cross-Training and Compliance: Supports cross-training activities and ensures employees adhere to operational instructions, procedures, and quality standards.
System Compliance: Ensures compliance with operational instruction sheets (ODS), quality requirements (e.g., Quality Alerts), and IATF-16949 systems and procedures.
Issue Resolution: Takes proactive steps to correct variances, resolve issues, and drive process improvements.
Quality Assurance: Ensures all products meet established quality standards and customer specifications.
Housekeeping and 5S: Promotes and maintains high housekeeping standards and uphold 5S principles on the production floor.
Health and Safety: Informs employees of potential health hazards and risks, providing appropriate information and instructions as required. Be able to handle First Aid.
Escalation and Disciplinary Actions: Manages employee concerns through the proper escalation process, collaborating with your Lead hand, Senior Production Lead, and HR and ensures proper documentation for disciplinary actions.
Safety Compliance: Performs all duties in compliance with health and safety regulations, maintaining a safe work environment.
Other Duties: Completes additional tasks as assigned, which may include working the production line or supporting material handling activities during a lack of resources.
Leadership Experience: Relevant leadership experience in a similar position or equivalent role is an asset.
