The Job You Will Perform:
Display safety leadership above all else and at all times and ensure the highest expectations are in place with respect to environmental compliance
Coordinate and communicate with mill operations, maintenance, engineering, and management personnel on a day-to-day basis while performing duties
Demonstrate a proactive approach to operations by working with the other business units to balance operations for the good of the mill
Manage and deliver on detailed list of objectives that support mill goals for safety, environment, financial, capital and reliability, with a strong focus on results
Participate and lead as a member of the mill Lead Team and people development council
Conduct one to one developmental discussions and coach employees to accomplish team goals, ensuring proper and consistent accountability processes are in place within the department
Actively build and maintain strong relationships with union representatives for the department and mill
Engage team in achieving individual, team, department, mill, and company goals; manage plans to ensure the leaders and crews have ownership and feel valued within the organization
Ensure active and effective training processes in place
Lead and deliver results through established processes and systems
Understand, promote, and deliver results on reliability systems to deliver on year-over-year (YOY) improvement goals for reliability
Ensure outage processes in place to deliver on department and mill routine and annual outage objectives
Understand, promote and deliver results for Manufacturing Excellence (ME) tools and processes; participate and lead ME improvement initiatives in the department
Support 5S program for the area and drive improvement projects, audit systems, and excellent results
Provide direct (personal) and department support for and participation in the mill’s structured cost reduction efforts/teams
Manage department capital plan and coordinate priorities within the overall mill capital plan
Ensure effective management of change process (MOC) to eliminate unintended change related issues
Facilitate the implementation of new procedures and controls required by the change in facilities, products, and corporate policies and procedures
Provide support for budgeting cycle targeted at delivering year over year savings
Work closely with the Global Sourcing organization within the facility and company to identify and deliver on key sourcing drivers to maximize the value of services delivered to both the facility and the company
Serve in a leadership role for the mill during weekend duty rotation
Instill the 80/20 principle in department operations
The Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge You Will Bring:
8 years of experience in the Pulp and Paper mill industry preferred with at least five (5) years of management experience is required
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other related field
Personally exhibit safety as a core value and effectively communicate a shared vision for safety
Possess leadership, interpersonal skills, and the ability to drive change
Represent both company policy and direction, as well as actively advocate for department needs and concerns
Quickly develop thorough knowledge of department and mill operations processes, equipment and systems
Utilize excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate to groups and individuals at all levels
Approach positional responsibilities in an inclusive manner by engaging all team members in area, department, and mill
Utilize the International Paper Change Process to drive change
Work effectively within a team
Utilize strong organizational skills to handle multiple tasks effectively
Analyze problems and develop solutions independently or with teams
Make timely and effective decisions
