Purpose Provides independent, technical support for order processing at the Gambrinus Steel Plant with the goals of first time quality, on time delivery and cost control. Is a key resource for data mining, independent analysis and reporting for all activities within the Finish Metallurgical Quality Assurance group and the Gambrinus Metallurgical Laboratory. Responsibilities 1 Independent assignment of at least 50% of thermal treat recipes for assigned furnaces. For associated orders that fail requirements, reviews all pertinent process data and proposes root cause issue(s) and disposition to correct the problem issue(s). 2 Interacts with groups such as Supply Chain Engineering, Technology, Demand Planning, etc. on special projects / trial orders. Provides technical support for special order processing through real time process witnessing / process documentation / data reporting, etc. Develops special sample processing requirements and data reporting, etc. and provides detailed written instructions for these activities. 3 Participates in daily, weekly, and monthly quality and departmental meetings. Technical expert for thermal treat operations and provides daily support to operations with frequent shop floor interaction with operators. 4 Works with our customer interfaces and the Finish Metallurgical Quality Assurance group to provide data for resolution of claims related to orders processed through the Gambrinus Steel Plant. Can identify key process / property data, effectively pull it from history databases and complete appropriate analyses and reports to help obtain resolution. 5 Interacts with the Gambrinus Metallurgical Laboratory to provide accurate analysis and reporting of all measurement system analysis data collected for the lab's operations. The current data included in these analyses are from daily verification checks of all hardness test machines and from occasional optical standards ratings by metallographers (not on a regularly scheduled basis). 6 Generates ideas for continuous improvement of processes and activities within Thermal Treat, Finish Metallurgical Quality Assurance, and the Gambrinus Metallurgical Laboratory. Proposes ideas and leads small projects for improvement. 7 Provides technical support for testing (metallography), final test results review, order release, order certification, etc. as needed to maintain best performance for on time delivery. Technical Skills * Working knowledge and experience in Outlook, Word, Power Point, etc. * Metallography of carbon and low alloy steels * Skilled in Access data queries * Skilled in data analysis using licensed JMP software * Communication skills * Analytical skills / creative thinking processes Minimum Qualifications * Bachelor Degree in Engineering with 2 years of experience in engineering technology, data analysis, and/or metallography. * Masters Degree in Engineering with experience in engineering technology, data analysis, and/or metallography preferred. Preferred Qualifications * Bachelor Degree in Material Science with 2 years of experience in engineering technology, data analysis, and/or metallography. * Masters Degree in Material Science with experience in engineering technology, data analysis, and/or metallography preferred.
