Position Information

Position Title AV Classroom & Events Support Specialist

FLSA Non-Exempt

Primary Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and execute AV support for campus events.

  • Manage the AV execution and support for commencement, orientation, alumni weekend, and other major campus events.

  • Provide AV support and guidance for various minor events, including weekend and evening events.

  • Ensure all AV event needs are met by maintaining technology in proper working order, setup, and operational as needed.

  • Communicate effectively with event stakeholders to ensure needs are understood and met.

  • Assist with supporting and designing AV systems for classrooms, meeting spaces, event spaces, and athletics.

  • Respond quickly to and resolve classroom technology emergencies, including computer projection, sound, and related equipment issues.

  • Design, implement, and support AV systems using industry-standard best practices.

  • Read and design schematic diagrams and design drawings.

  • Support the IT service request system by evaluating, assigning, completing, advising, and following up on incidents and service requests.

  • Interact with campus users via in-person meetings, email, phone, and remote support tools to resolve technology problems.

  • Serve as a consultant to advise users on best practices for maintaining their technology.

  • Contribute to the departmental knowledge base.

  • Provide software support, including Microsoft and Mac OS, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, and other software to support academic and university operations.

  • Assess, repair, and maintain networked printers and Multi-Function Copiers across campus.

  • Manage equipment inventory, ensuring all AV equipment is accounted for and in good condition.

  • Conduct training sessions for faculty and staff on using AV equipment and classroom technology.

  • Perform regular preventative maintenance on AV systems.

  • Work with and mentor student technicians.

  • Mentor student technicians providing on-campus support.

  • Assist with the development and ongoing training program for student technicians.

  • Respond to unplanned circumstances that may interrupt services.

  • Use critical thinking skills to identify and respond to problems quickly.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to resolve problems as quickly as possible.

  • Provide exceptional customer service communication.

  • Work as a team on various departmental working/project groups.

  • Evening and weekend hours as required.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience in audio-video technology operation and support.

  • Experience providing technical support across various technologies, including Windows, MacOS, iOS, Android, and printers.

  • Experience with audio-visual control systems such as Crestron, Extron, or AMX , including installation, configuration, and programming (Extron experience is strongly preferred).

  • Experience supporting AV for high-profile events that require high attention to detail and diligent planning and preparation.

  • High attention to detail with the ability to make quick and accurate decisions.

  • Ability to operate a university vehicle.

  • Ability to lift and carry necessary equipment and utilize ladders to perform tasks.

  • Ability to install cable in various conduits, tight spaces, crawl spaces, etc.

  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues quickly and effectively under pressure.

  • Experience with virtual event platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams) for hybrid events.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks while providing exceptional and reliable customer service.

  • Creative problem solver able to diagnose and replace hardware components in campus technology.

  • Excellent communication skills to assist peers, faculty, staff, and students clearly and effectively.

  • Strong passion for technology and eagerness to learn and maintain current knowledge in an ever-changing technology landscape.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • AVIXA CTS , CTS -I, or CTS -D Certification.

  • Experience in designing, installing, and integrating AV technology into meeting, event, classroom, and athletics environments.

  • Extron programming certification.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft SCCM , JAMF , and ITSM tools (preferably Team Dynamix).

  • Experience providing technical support in a higher education environment.

    Salary $23.00 - $27.00 per hour. Actual rate will be determined based on experience and qualifications and other factors permitted by law.
