General Dynamics Mission Systems Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania

Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.  Responsibilities for this Position Progeny Systems, a business area within the General Dynamics Mission Systems company, is a high-tech business focusing on software and hardware system integration, cutting-edge research and development, and manufacturing. We deliver architectures, designs, testing, and production of the current and next generation torpedo guidance and control systems for the Department of Defense providing the warfighter with advanced capabilities in target detection, acquisition, and prosecution. We are a technology leader in numerous areas including technology insertion; acoustic sensors; signal processing; guidance; cyber secure; and high reliability systems.

As an Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer for the Torpedo Systems Group (TSG), you will have extensive mechanical design skills and can manage large, complex project initiatives of substantial importance to the organization, while working with and providing guidance to a team of mechanical engineers. You will lead a mechanical engineering team and work with cross functional teams responsible for designing, developing, demonstrating, producing, assembling, testing, and delivering torpedo guidance systems. Duties and Tasks: Lead and direct experienced engineers, lower-level engineers, and peer multi-disciplinary engineering leads Manage engineering expertise to meet business objectives through the effective planning and execution of pursuits, and programs. Research and analyze data such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application. Research, plan, design, and provide guidance to other engineers for mechanical and electromechanical products and systems. Analyze, design and test products or systems such as mechanisms, controls, and mechanical, thermal, or heat transfer systems required to operate in challenging environmental conditions. Plan and direct engineering personnel in fabrication of test apparatus and equipment, and development of methods and procedures for testing products or systems. Apply experience with ASME Y standards and generating detailed documentation of parts, assemblies and installations. Create and maintain mechanical solid models and drawings using SolidWorks. Perform engineering change document preparation and impact assessments. Create and manage bills of material (BOM) Develop technical presentations, recommendations, and written communications to explain technical issues to program management and the Navy customer team. Communicate, both verbally and in writing, with technical and non-technical professionals at all levels What sets you apart: Extensive knowledge of manufacturing and fabrication methods, as well as technical, government, and industry standards Experience in preparation of estimates for design tasks. Detail-oriented and able to perform Peer Reviews of fellow engineers' designs and drawings. Target salary range: USD $166,500.00/Yr. - USD $180,000.00/Yr. This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary.
