Summary / Role Purpose The Senior Legal Counsel - Product role assists with implementing and maintaining the organization's product legal program, including, but not limited to advising and guiding implementation of process changes, maintenance of policies and procedures, and monitoring of applicable laws and regulations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities Partner with product management and development teams to proactively identify and remediate risks with new and existing products and services throughout the development lifecycle Support and/or lead the implementation, management, and improvement of policies and procedures to improve compliance with internal and external requirements Coordinate with legal and non-legal stakeholders on product development activities and product launches to translate risk management requirements into the product development process Draft and negotiate the terms of various agreements, including software/technology agreements Provide guidance on the use of open-source software Support global license compliance and privacy programs Conduct periodic training on a variety of topics for wide audiences Monitor applicable laws and regulations
Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience Juris Doctor or equivalent and active membership in at lease one U.S. state bar At least 5 years relevant experience, in-house preferred Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complicated concepts (both legal and technical) in simple terms Experience with reviewing various types of license agreements Familiar with product-related regulatory compliance requirements such as export control, intellectual property, privacy, standards, and customized go-to-market terms Ability to work cross-functionally with lawyer and non-lawyers Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment and a self-starter
