Summary

Under the direction of the Facility Supervisor, a Cleaner is responsible for the cleaning and maintaining of all NJ TRANSIT facilities, and/or properties. Report any incidents occurred as directed by the supervisor.

Roles and Responsibilities :

• Must be able to perform cleaning duties as follows:

• Clean and wash the interior of facilities.

• Maintain lavatories, and replace towels, and other lavatory supplies.

• Perform janitorial duties.

• Perform policing of the responsible area during the tour of duty.

• Perform other cleaning duties as directed.

• Perform landscaping and snow removal duties needed.

• Report any malfunctions that may be found while performing duties.

• Use sweepers/scrubbers and related cleaning equipment.

• Must have a working knowledge of building maintenance chemicals and procedures and be capable of using same safely

• Must be able to understand written and oral directions

• Must be able to work in harmony with fellow employees

• Must be capable of lifting 40 lbs. of debris

• Must be able to work with minimum supervision

• Must be able to move furniture and equipment properly to perform cleaning duties

• Must be available for emergencies

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

• Previous experience in the janitorial preferred

• Must have a High School diploma or GED from a recognized and accredited school

• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English

• Capable of completing forms and carrying out duties of the position

• Pass the pre-employment physical and background checks (interview, background check and pre-employment medical screening)

• Must have flexibility to work any shift including evenings, weekends, and holidays

• Must be able to do physical exertion generally required to perform critical tasks in support of critical job functions, for example - sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, pushing, and pulling

• Must be able to work in a fast paced work environments and its potential challenges
