Job Description
Discovery Biotherapeutics and Genetic Medicine (BGM) at Abbvie is seeking a highly motivated Principal Scientist to join the Cell and Functional Biology group at the Cambridge Research Center (CRC) site based in Cambridge, MA. This role will be responsible for the design and empowerment of screening strategies employed to advance promising biotherapeutics from early exploration through lead identification and optimization. Close partnerships with Neuroscience and Immunology will be required to drive transformative ideas to the clinic. The ideal candidate should possess experience in large molecule screening strategy design including vitro cell-based assays, with a strong understanding of high-throughput screening, external research partner (CRO) capabilities, and brain shuttle systems highly valued.
Job Responsibilities:
Develop in vitro functional assays leveraging diverse signaling pathways to transition early therapeutic ideas into enabled biotherapeutics campaigns.
Design and employ strategic screening funnels for biotherapeutic discovery campaigns within the immunology and neuroscience therapeutic areas.
Identify and integrate cutting-edge technologies and methodologies into screening and assay development, anticipating future trends in drug discovery.
Conduct detailed analysis of complex data sets to extract key insights and guide decision-making processes in research projects.
Foster strong cross-functional collaborations with therapeutic area partners to promote the generation of innovative ideas and solutions that support organizational objectives.
Present and explain research findings and strategies clearly and effectively, preparing scientific reports, publications, and presentations for varied audiences.
Demonstrate scientific excellence through dedication to multiple projects in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary environment.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
BS with typically 14+ years, MS with typically 12+ years, or PhD with typically 6+ years of experience in Biology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, or another related field.
Extensive experience in early-stage biotherapeutic discovery, particularly within neuroscience and immunology therapeutic areas.
Proficiency in developing and optimizing high-throughput screening assays for biotherapeutic candidates, including cellular and immuno assays.
Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional research teams, manage projects, and effectively communicate with stakeholders.
Experience with state-of-the-art screening technologies and data analysis tools.
Desirable:
Experience in managing relationships with Contract Research Organizations (CROs) to ensure alignment with project goals and timelines.
Familiarity with brain shuttle mechanisms for drug delivery across the blood-brain barrier, including cutting-edge advancements in the field.

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
