Position Description
The Harvard College Observatory Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian (https://www.cfa.harvard.edu/) invites applications for a postdoctoral research position with Prof. Edo Berger (https://www.transients.science/) in the areas of time-domain and gravitational wave astrophysics, including electromagnetic studies of gravitational wave sources, supernovae, tidal disruption events, gamma-ray bursts, machine learning classification, and magnetic activity in low mass stars and exoplanets. The successful applicant will lead and participate in observations and data analysis across the electromagnetic spectrum, in one or more of these areas, or will lead work on machine learning classification of optical transients. Applicants with previous experience in radio data analysis, optical/IR spectroscopy, space-based imaging analysis (optical/X-rays), and other time-domain science are encouraged to apply.
Resources include programs with HST , Chandra, Magellan, MMT , Gemini, VLA , and ALMA . Prof. Berger is also a senior Investigator in the NSF AI Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Fundamental Interactions ( IAIFI (https://iaifi.org/) ).
The position is for two years, renewable for a third year upon mutual agreement. The nominal starting date will be September 1, 2025, but an earlier or later start is negotiable. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in astronomy, physics, or equivalent, by the date of appointment.
