Mathematica Nutrition Research Assistant in Cambridge, Massachusetts

Position Description:

Mathematica applies expertise at the intersection of data, methods, policy, and practice to improve well-being around the world. We collaborate closely with public- and private-sector partners to translate big questions into deep insights that improve programs, refine strategies, and enhance understanding using data science and analytics. Our work yields actionable information to guide decisions in wide-ranging policy areas, from health, education, early childhood, and family support to nutrition, employment, disability, and international development.

We are seeking part-time, temporary nutrition research assistants for a nationwide school nutrition study that is assessing the nutritional quality and cost of school meals. Nutrition research assistants will be responsible for reviewing completed menu surveys to identify missing data and following up with School Nutrition Managers to retrieve this data. Nutrition research assistants will also be responsible for finalizing menu survey data in an online system.

Positions start in early February 2025 and will likely last through August, with the possibility of continuing work on other study tasks for additional months. Positions require a minimum commitment of 16 hours per week, and scheduling is flexible between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday. All work will be completed in-person in our Cambridge office, located between Harvard and Central Square in Cambridge.**

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree or prior experience with school food service or school nutrition studies (degrees in nutrition, dietetics, or related field preferred)
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with navigating online computer programs
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Flexibility, sensitivity, and patience in working with school staff
  • Prior experience with nutrient analysis software and/or nutrient databases preferred (but not required)

This position is categorized as on-call, and as such, the hours may at times vary based on project needs. Your employment will be classified as on-call until the duration of the project(s) or need(s) is complete.
