    Job Description

FINANCIAL ASSISTANT 2, Laboratory for Nuclear Science (LNS), to coordinate research administration and financial activities and perform a diverse range of pre-and post-award grant administration duties. Will interpret and resolve concerns from faculty members and labs within LNS and across other departments, juggle multiple deadlines, and provide excellent and efficient support to a variety of stakeholders. Responsibilities include providing timely, transparent, and efficient guidance to internal and external stakeholders on a wide variety of finance-related matters and inquiries; providing support for post-award budgets/general accounts; supporting financial review for research/general accounts and monitoring expenditures for compliance with sponsor requirements; processing invoices, preparing journal vouchers, verifying credit card charges (PCard), performing monthly financial review and control, and approving financial documents (e.g., travel vouchers, requests for payment, etc.); updating and maintaining account and LNS database information; supporting the preparation of monthly financial reports for principal investigators; providing backup support to other financial assistants; and participating in special projects and performing other duties as assigned. Job Requirements

REQUIRED: high school diploma or its equivalent; three years’ financial/accounting or business operations experience; proficiency with Microsoft Excel; excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and customer service skills; meticulous attention to detail; willingness to assume new responsibilities and learn new software as needed; and ability to set priorities, meet tight deadlines despite frequent interruptions, and work both independently and as part of a team. PREFERRED: associate’s/bachelor's degree; experience with database management and Adobe Acrobat; MIT experience; knowledge of OSP Kuali and SAP, MIT's financial and administrative systems; and knowledge of Uniform Guidance, NIH and other federal sponsor policies, and MIT policies related to finance and research administration.
