City of Cambridge Consumer Information Specialist in Cambridge, Massachusetts

Under the supervision of the Executive Director of the Consumers Council and the Chair of the License Commission, and/or their designees, the Consumer Information Specialist will be responsible for attending to any assigned consumer complaints. The person is also responsible for assisting the public with any consumer protection questions. The person will work in tandem with the Attorney General?s Office in assisting to resolve consumer complaints filed with the state and assigned to the office. There is also opportunity to supervise, train, and monitor intern/volunteer and staff. The job entails performing administrative tasks and recordkeeping as it relates to the handling of consumer complaints. The person will also be responsible for hosting and conducting seminars, trainings, and other activities related to consumer protection and education. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: A bachelor\'s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills, well-organized, able to work independently with various agencies and the general public. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel required. Ability to operate various office equipment and learn consumer complaint database program. PREFERRED: Candidates with knowledge of Massachusetts Consumer laws and regulations, the consumer complaint process, and consumer referral options. Experience in mediating and/or negotiating agreements or disputes. Experience supervising others.
