Job Summary

We are seeking a Research Vivarium Husbandry Animal Care Technician 2 for our Insourcing Solutions Department based in Cambridge, MA.

In the Animal Care Technician 2 role, you will observe, monitor, and document the health and physical environment within the animal facility. Perform animal care and husbandry.

You may also be tasked with the following:

  • Review, comprehend and comply with all SOPs and quality assurance standards pertaining to laboratory animals for research.

  • Maintain accurate records of animal breeding, health, and housing/isolator or support areas as required by Institute and facility.

  • Perform health observations and animal husbandry duties to maintain quality of health of research animals.

  • Assist with restraint, handling and manipulation of various animal species as assigned by the on-site supervisor or facility veterinarian.

  • Perform humane euthanasia.

  • Receive, inspect, and put away incoming animals; ensure and provide for sentinel animals in each rodent housing area.

  • May be involved in strictly maintaining and following breeding and weaning procedures to ensure appropriate production levels.

  • Operate equipment and use supplies according to safety guidelines; perform general housekeeping and adhere to safety procedures.

Job Qualifications

Candidate will possess:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science, Biology or Biological Science preferred.

  • A Minimum of two years directly related laboratory animal experience in a laboratory animal facility. AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician level (ALAT) within 18 months of hire.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.

The pay for this position is $25.00 - $27.00 per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
