Description

Job Summary:

Performs a variety of manual tasks and activities related to grounds maintenance of MetCom facilities, including, but not limited to operating and maintaining various pieces of lawn equipment both manual and motorized. The position reports to the Waste Water Collections Superintendent.

Essential Functions:

  • Assists with performing light building construction i.e. roofs, steps, walls, and drywall

  • Maintains all equipment as assigned, including, but not limited to: chainsaw, lawn mower, trailer truck, weed whacker, etc.

  • Performs a variety of grounds maintenance duties, including, but not limited to, clearing ditches and fence lines, cutting grass, edging, lawn restoration

  • Assists in cleaning, prepping, and application of protective coatings to wood, metal, concrete, or other surfaces, including buildings, floors, and water storage tanks

Other Duties:

Performs other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (These are pre-employment KSA that apply only to Essential Job Functions.):

  • Ability to gain working knowledge of St. Mary’s County Metropolitan Commission policies and procedures

  • Ability to act as a representative of St. Mary’s County Metropolitan Commission to the public

  • Knowledge of safety regulations and established procedures for operating and maintaining equipment as well as for ensuring safety

  • General knowledge of Grounds Keeping and lawn Maintenance.

  • Ability to wear appropriate PPE

  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records

Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training, and relevant experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities, and skills may be substituted on a full-time year-for-year basis.):

Training and/or Education:

High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Experience:

Or equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience

Licenses or Certificates:

Must possess a valid Maryland Driver’s License; Class C.

Physical Demands:

Work requires constant physical effort in the handling of heavy tools, equipment, or materials, or 60 pounds or more.

Unusual Demands:

The work environment involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress, which require a range of safety and other precautions, e.g., aggressive human behavior, extreme outdoor weather conditions, confined workspace, or similar situations where conditions cannot be controlled.
