The role you’ll contribute:
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Employee Health Nurse is responsible for the services provided by the Employee Health Department. The Employee Health Nurse assists in the promotion and provision of occupational healthcare services, and Workers Comp. Assists employees in meeting specific healthcare requirements and recommendations as established by hospital policy and state and/or federal regulations and/or statutes.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
RN/LPN Minimal Nursing Practice Function
· The nurse is responsible for execution of the Nursing Process
Assessment – The nurse collects patient health data.
· Data collection involves the patient, family, and other health care providers as appropriate.
· The priority of data collection activities is determined by the employee’s immediate condition or needs.
· Pertinent data is collected using appropriate assessment techniques and instruments.
· Relevant data is documented in a retrievable form.
· The data collection process is systematic and ongoing.
Diagnosis – The nurse analyzes the assessment data in determining diagnoses.
· Diagnoses are derived from the assessment data.
· Diagnoses are validated with the patient, family, and other health care providers, when possible and appropriate.
· Diagnoses are documented in a manner that facilitates the determination of expected outcomes and plan of care.
Outcome Identification – The nurse identifies expected outcomes individualized to the patient.
· Outcomes are derived from the diagnoses.
· Outcomes are mutually formulated with the patient, family, and other health care providers, when possible and appropriate.
· Outcomes are culturally appropriate and realistic in relation to the patient’s present and potential capabilities.
· Outcomes are attainable in relation to resources available to the patient.
· Outcomes include a time estimate for attainment.
· Outcomes provide direction for continuity of care.
· Outcomes are documented as measurable goals.
Planning – The nurse develops a plan of care that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.
· The plan is individualized to the employee (e.g., age-appropriate, culturally sensitive) and the employee’s condition or needs.
· The plan is developed with the patient, family, and other health care providers, as appropriate.
· The plan reflects current nursing practice.
· The plan provides for continuity of care.
· Priorities for care are established.
· The plan is documented.
Implementation – The nurse implements the interventions identified in the plan of care.
· Interventions are consistent with the established plan of care.
· Interventions are implemented in a safe, timely, and appropriate manner.
· Interventions are documented.
Evaluations – The nurse evaluates the patient’s progress toward attainment of outcomes.
· Evaluation is systematic, ongoing, and criterion-based.
· The patient, family, and other health care providers are involved in the evaluation process, as appropriate.
· Ongoing assessment data are used to revise diagnoses, outcomes, and the plan of care, as needed.
· Revisions in diagnoses, outcomes, and the plan of care are documented.
· The effectiveness of interventions is evaluated in relation to outcomes.
· The patient’s responses to interventions are documented.
· The RN or LPN practices in accordance to the established Georgia Nurse Practice Act and law.
· The RN or LPN is responsible for maintaining general mandatories established by Gordon Hospital and any unit-specific mandatories, as deemed necessary for practice within that setting.
· The RN or LPN is responsible for legal, ethical practice. The nurse serves as a patient advocate in accordance with the patient bill of rights. The nurse is responsible for compliance with regulatory standards pertinent to nursing practice.
Department Specific Essential Functions:
· Oversee the daily operation of the Employee Health Department and the Workers’ Compensation program for Gordon Hospital.
· Establish and implement hours of operation to best suit the needs of the department and the customers served.
· Identify priorities to enable the Employee Health Department to function in a safe, effective and efficient manner.
· Develop and manage the Employee Health and Workers’ Compensation budget for Gordon Hospital.
· Monitor and track all supply and drug expenditures for the Employee Health Department through the monthly responsibility reports provided.
· Monitor the drug screening charges for Drug Free Workplace program.
· Oversee the development, revision and implementation of policies and procedures specific to the Employee Health Department and Workers’ Compensation program.
· Review and update policies as scheduled.
· Implement new policies relevant to the Employee Health Department and Workers’ Compensation in accordance with State and Federal regulations and recommendations.
· Work effectively with Administration, directors, managers, physicians, employees and any other individuals associated with Gordon Hospital, by consulting with appropriate resources including but not limited to physicians, servicing agents and legal services regarding Employee Health issues and Workers’ Compensation cases as required.
· Oversee the maintenance of the Employee Health Department and Workers’ Compensation records and files in accordance with State and Federal regulations.
· Establish and maintain effective communication and utilize effective teaching opportunities with employees of Gordon Hospital.
· Oversee the development and implementation of the Employee Health Department portion of the new hire orientation.
· Consistently and accurately explain reasons behind Employee Health policies and procedures.
· Oversee and provide the counseling to those employees who have sustained work-related blood-borne pathogen exposures.
· Maintains, monitors and tracks blood-borne pathogen exposures as it pertains to Employee Health.
· Maintain accurate and legible blood-borne pathogen files with strict confidentiality.
· Assist in the follow up of those employees who have sustained a work-related injury or illness.
· Assist in the follow up of work-related injuries or illnesses at the request of the Manager/Director.
· Accurately documents findings and verbally relate findings to appropriate sources as directed by Manager of Employee Health.
· Oversee and assist in the retrieval of data necessary for the completion of records and reports that are necessary for governmental regulations, insurance purposes, and various committees.
· Perform other duties as assigned or as needed in order to contribute to the smooth operation of the Employee Health Department.
· Performs duties in an independent manner with little or no need for direct supervision.
· Prioritizes and organizes daily work schedule.
· Recognizes and performs duties that need to be performed although not directly assigned.
· Actively serve on various committees as deemed necessary.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
· Personal computer skills and ability to utilize standard office software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:
· 2 years experience in occupational nursing highly preferred.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
· Requires previous hospital nursing experience.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
· Associate’s Degree in Nursing
· Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
· At least five years of previous hospital experience
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
· Current GA RN licensure.
· Current BLS
