Liberty Healthcare Corporation Senior Associate General Counsel (remote first) in CA, United States

Liberty Healthcare Corporation seeks to hire an experienced attorney for a new Senior Associate General Counsel position which will focus on litigation and employment matters.

This is an in-house role in which you will work collaboratively with Liberty Healthcare’s in-house legal team, human resources professionals, organizational leaders, various business partners, and outside counsel.

You will enjoy a dynamic job description with an array of responsibilities, including:

  • Collaborating with and advising business teams in areas of risk management, pre-litigation, and litigation matters, identifying potential litigation risk and counseling the business to minimize exposure.

  • In collaboration with outside counsel, managing all aspects of litigation and pre-litigation disputes, including strategy development and implementation, fact-finding and analysis, witness preparation, depositions, case management conferences, mediations, and trial preparation and partner with the business to identify potential litigation risks and solutions.

  • Assisting in selecting and retaining competent, cost-effective outside counsel and experts.

  • Partnering with outside counsel to ensure all aspects of the legal representation are of the highest quality, including the day-to-day running of matters, overall strategy, written work, and other advocacy.

  • Serving as the primary advisor for legal hold issues, e-discovery, and subpoenas.

  • Preparing and presenting quarterly and annual reports related to litigation and claims.

  • Managing insurance coverage analysis, carrier communications and coordination related to litigation.

  • Serving as subject matter expert and primary legal point of contact for human resources, wage and hour, and employee relations matters.

  • Providing practical legal advice on a variety of employment matters, including recruiting, hiring, performance management, separations, employee relations, leaves of absence, reasonable accommodations, employee benefits, discrimination, harassment, wage and hour compliance, EEO (and state agency) compliance and other employment related topics.

  • Reviewing, drafting and negotiating employment-related documents, including job offers, employment agreements, severance agreements, and other legal documents.

  • Developing and implementing standard processes, policies, trainings, handbooks and other written materials in collaboration with the Human Resources department.

  • Stay informed concerning relevant employment-related legal and governance developments, including changes in federal and state laws and regulations.

  • Handling employment related claims, including respond to attorney demand letters, administrative investigation or charges (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Department of Labor, OSHA and State employment agency investigations), effectively negotiate resolution of claims, and make recommendations to Human Resources and senior management on corrective action, with support from outside counsel where appropriate.

As a full-time employee of Liberty Healthcare in this role, you can expect the following:

  • Salary range starting at $150,000 (dependent on experience)

This is a remote first position which will allow you to work primarily form your home office and require you to travel occasionally to the service locations throughout the United States and the organization’s corporate headquarters in suburban Philadelphia, PA.

To qualify for this position, you must possess these minimum requirements:

  • Juris Doctor degree

  • Admission to a State bar in the US

  • At least 10 years of litigation experience

  • Proficiency in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts

Priority consideration will be given to candidates who also possess the following:

  • In-house corporate counsel experience with the abovementioned responsibilities

  • Health care industry experience

  • Knowledge of labor law - especially in California
