Job Description:

Position Summary:

This role is responsible for overseeing the strategic sourcing process for a number of indirect procurement categories, that could include Services, Occupancy, Utilities, Supply Chain, Equipment, Supplies, Information Technology, Maintenance, and Construction. This role will manage a team and guide their work in running the end-to-end sourcing process – from (1) target spec and demand definition, to (2) sourcing strategy and negotiation lever development, to (3) sourcing execution and contracting management, to (4) buying and PO / supplier management. You will serve as a liaison between the procurement organization, business stakeholders for your team’s categories (e.g., the Supply Chain team), and key vendors.

Here's what you’ll do:

  • Develop and execute strategy to reduce spend in assigned categories while meeting business needs in order to maximize value.

  • Provide leadership to drive continuous improvement in spend management processes and implemented tactics to drive compliance across assigned categories.

  • Determine required spec and appropriate demand for spend in each category:

  • Analyze and confirm current spend, suppliers and agreements.

  • Analyze historical spend in category and define spec / demand requirements jointly with business owners (e.g., run spend analytics and benchmarking).

  • Analyze external market structure – develop industry and supplier baseline.

  • Prioritize cost reduction opportunities and communicate with business unit leaders to highlight potential savings:

  • Execute against the aligned sourcing strategy, in collaboration with supporting Indirect Procurement teams:Develop and execute RFI's / RFP's and eAuctions to support the business needs.

  • Directly negotiate with senior counterparts at key vendors.

  • Select vendors and coordinate with SpartanNash stakeholders through contracting process.

  • Embed changes internally through commitments with business stakeholders.

  • Work with supporting Indirect Procurement teams to manage supplier relationships and ongoing buying process:

  • Establish and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for your categories – including initial landed cost and year-on-year price reductions targets, service quality, on time delivery improvements and material parts inventory reductions all tied to specific P&L targeted goals.

  • Collaborate with Finance stakeholders to monitor and budget savings.

  • Work with supporting teams to ensure POs are executed and that three-way-match are conducted to ensure invoice spend matches PO and contracted rates.

  • Responsible for department management including staffing, training, performance management and career development of associates, and developing and monitoring department goals.

  • Develop and monitor department budget as required.

  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Bachelor's Degree (Required) in business, finance, Supply Chain Management, or related field or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

  • 5+ years in indirect procurement.

  • 2+ years of supervisory experience.

  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful procurement strategies that deliver cost savings and improve efficiency across diverse categories.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate effectively throughout the organization, including senior management.

  • Ability to effectively work with vendors.

  • Strong negotiation, analytical, problem solving, organization and prioritization skills.

  • Ability and commitment to guide, motivate, mentor, and develop staff members and successors to key positions within the department.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
