Our Test Engineering team is seeking a Lead Technician to join our team of experienced engineers and technicians. As a member of our team, you will assist in designing, developing, and building innovative test solutions supporting commercial and military and defense sensor products. Day to day activities include building test hardware such as cables, power distribution boxes, valve boxes, switch matrices, troubleshooting test solutions, and updating documentation.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Will lead in researching, developing, designing, and testing electrical components, and equipment, systems as well as resolving day-to-day technical problems by troubleshooting electrical devices problems on the production line.

  • Will lead in the building of test hardware (cables, boxes, racks, etc.) and test solutions per engineering drawings.

  • Will provide guidance for engineering regarding prototype design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.

  • Will gain knowledge and modify machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions. Designs electrical equipment, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.

  • Will create and review test system designs and documentation with engineering to meet customer requirements. Will work in updating documentation (drawings, schematics, BOM, classification) or providing markups of new and existing test hardware.

  • Designs major components or major portions of functional systems, technically advanced prototype test systems, and promotional or specific products using computer design and engineering systems.

  • Will work in a collaborative team environment and be able to communicate effectively with engineers, operators, and technicians.

  • Will lead in orienting, training, assigning, and checking the work of technical employees.

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

  • Experience building complex cable assemblies and test boxes.

  • Experience reviewing and editing engineering schematics and wire lists.

  • Experience with low-/high-voltage system design.

  • Experience using Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Visio, etc.).

  • AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 8 years relevant experience or i n the absence of a HS diploma, GED or AA/AS degree, 10 years of relevant experience is required or a B achelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline and 2 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Self-starter with ability to manage time and resources to meet assigned deadlines.

  • Experience working in an Agile environment, being part of a highly integrated team working closely with engineering and manufacturing teams.

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment and working with Automated Test Systems.

  • Design and documentation experience of test cables and or test boxes.

  • Ability to design and build test hardware with minimal direction, documentation, or requirements.

  • Strong background in electrical troubleshooting.

  • Strong background in creating and reading electrical schematics.

  • Familiarity with standard avionics busses including 1553, ARINC, CAN, RS485, RS232, and 1394

  • Strong understanding of Minnesota Electrical Codes and EH&S guidelines.

The salary range for this role is 48,000 USD - 116,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
