Responsibilities
- Perform roadway design tasks under the guidance of senior engineers
- Apply engineering principles pertaining to and in support of the detailed plans and construction documents for roadway projects.
- Work in a team environment to develop contract drawings using MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
- Prepare technical design documentation, quantity take-offs, cost estimates and specifications
- Gain valuable experience in the design of roadway geometrics, intersections, sidewalks/trails, pavement design, drainage, erosion and sedimentation control, and work zone traffic control.
- Review submittals and shop drawings for compliance with contract documents
- Participate in job site visits and attend project meetings
- Interface with other technical disciplines (Bridges / Drainage)
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an accredited university
- 1 to 5 years of experience on transportation projects within New York State including roadways, bridges, and trails
- New York State Engineering in Training (EIT) certificate preferred
- General understanding of relevant software such as Microstation and/or AutoCADD
- Shall be self-motivated, detail-oriented, organized, and eager to learn and grow professionally
- Must have a positive mindset and a good work ethic with a desire to learn and the ability to work in a collaborative environment.
- Good writing and communication skills a plus
Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration
- Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language
- Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members
- Able to wear GPI required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working
