Lead Teacher

At BuffSci we are committed to the growth and development of our teachers, who receive feedback and professional development opportunities to sharpen their skills. Teachers are responsible for the intellectual preparation for each lesson, building strong relationships with students and families, using data to drive instruction, and actively collaborating with their teams.

As a lead elementary teacher, it is expected that you will foster a safe and creative space for students to optimize their learning and overall school experience. It is critical that you are patient, understanding, and supportive of the students and their growth.

Job Expectations

  • Uphold the mission and vision of BuffSci

  • Invest in school-wide systems and structures that maximize student learning

  • Reinforce a disciplined culture of high academic and behavioral standards

  • Plan, prepare and deliver instruction aligned to the Core Academic Model..

  • Develop lesson plans aligned to the NYS Common Core or Next Generation Learning Standards, and criteria outlined in the lesson planning policy.

  • Complete a 40-week pacing plan of instruction.

  • Adhere to the schools defined grading policy.

  • Develop and administer standards aligned benchmark assessments and perform RTI based on student performance.

  • Provide guidance to support teachers assigned to classroom

  • Provide students with frequent and accurate behavioral and academic feedback

  • Identify students who are academically at risk and execute effective intervention strategies

  • Consistently use assessment data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practices

  • Communicate frequently with families

  • Complete all duties and tasks as assigned

  • Participate in the professional development opportunities provided by our district. These programs are designed to help teachers enhance their practices, explore new approaches, and incorporate cutting-edge techniques into their classrooms. By participating in district-led professional development sessions, we can deepen our knowledge of subject areas, enhance our instructional strategies, and cultivate a culture of continuous learning and growth.

Qualifications

  • Commitment to "sweating the small stuff" in order to foster strong habits among students.

  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team and communicate effectively with diverse audiences including students, staff members, families, and community members.

  • Mastery and enthusiasm for elementary curriculum

  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's or advanced degree preferred.

  • Dual certification in Special Education, ENL or TESOL preferred.

  • Minimum two years of urban teaching preferred.

  • Proven track record of high achievement in the classroom.

  • NYS teaching credential preferred but not required.
