Internship Summary:

This internship will support the non-residential component of Haven House working with victims of domestic violence. As the DV Advocate Intern you will support the work of advocates as they provide outreach, crisis intervention, safety planning and referrals for victims of domestic violence.

Intern Responsibilities May Include:

  • Providing telephone and in-person risk assessment, safety planning, counseling and referrals to victims of domestic violence.

  • Providing information, referral and linkage to criminal and/or civil justice system, as well as community resources

  • Providing advocacy and/or court accompaniment. Including engaging in collaborative working relationship with police and court personnel, the District Attorney’s office or any other relevant parties

  • Assist victims with completing NYS OVS Applications

  • Maintain and complete all required data entry

  • Attend Haven House team meetings, trainings and regularly scheduled supervision.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program with a focus in health and human services

  • Interest in working with victims of domestic violence

  • Must be able to commit to a full academic year internship (two semesters)

  • Must have a valid NYS Drivers License and access to own transportation

  • Strong computer and people skills

This is an unpaid internship
