Title: Blood Banking - Transfusion Medicine PathologistJob Type:RegularCompany:Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer CenterDepartment: Laboratory MedicineTime Type: Full timeWeekly Hours: 40FTE:1Shift: First Shift (United States of America)Summary: The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center (RPCCC) seeks to recruit a Clinical Pathologist at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank whose main role will be to provide coverage for a robust blood banking and transfusion medicine service. The RPCCC transfusion service facilitates approximately 17,000 transfused products per year and our historic Donor Center (among the three oldest platelet collection facilities in the country) procures 2,500 products annually. The RPCCC Therapeutic Apheresis unit provides cellular collection for transplantation and adoptive therapy, plasmapheresis, red blood cell exchanges for sickle cell patients, extracorporeal photopheresis, and therapeutic phlebotomy. The successful candidate will directly interface with our expanding and dynamic Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program, a center of excellence in the domain of adoptive therapy offering cutting edge therapies delivered by nationally recognized specialists. Additional activities include oversight of clinical laboratory operations, active participation in hospital committees, and resident and medical school teaching. A willingness to have a minor role in clinical chemistry signout is desirable (SPEPs/IFEs). The RPCCC Division of Laboratory Medicine is one of relatively low volume but of high complexity that allows for close multidisciplinary collaboration. The position has a minimal but vibrant component of teaching residents, students and clinical fellows. This is an excellent opportunity to become a part of a dynamic practice that, as cancer focused, distinguishes itself from the usual positions in laboratory medicine. RPCCC has a robust infrastructure for supporting clinical and translational investigations and currently enjoys 20+ scientific shared resources including a broad range of sophisticated scientific instrumentation, cutting-edge technical and analytical applications, comprehensive sample biorepositories and more. Collaborative research opportunities are abundant, but an academic track record is not required. This is an excellent opportunity to participate in multi-disciplinary care across the institute, engaging with innovative clinicians and thought leaders in their field.Buffalo is the second most populous city in New York State and offers a "small-town" feel and a lower cost of living, however, with amenities of a larger city. It boasts incredible food and architecture and a vibrant arts scene that is anchored in the Buffalo AKG Art Museum and Burchfield Penney Art Center. There is proximity to New York City and the Canadian border, with Toronto being less than a 90-minute drive. Known as the "City of Good Neighbors", residents of Buffalo enjoy close knit communities with rich cultural diversity and friendly and down to Earth people.Salary range is competitive, starting at $260,000 or commensurate with experience and includes a comprehensive benefits package.Qualifications:Required & Preferred Education and ExperienceThe successful candidate will have Board certification in CP or AP/CP and prior experience directing a clinical pathology service is preferred, but prospective graduates of 2024 are encouraged to apply. Additional preference includes board eligible / certified in Blood Banking / Transfusion Medicine. The ideal candidate would also have experience or fellowship training or experience in Clinical Chemistry, Clinical Microbiology / Immunology, Clinical Molecular Diagnostics or Transfusion Medicine. Candidates must be licensed to practice medicine in New York State and qualify for a NY Certificate of QualificationNOTE:Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as following acceptable educational practices.Preferred Qualifications:The successful candidate will have Board certification in CP or AP/CP with board certification or eligibility in Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine. Candidates without fellowship training in Blood Banking will be considered with the appropriate experience.
