Job Assignment: STREET MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN II Job Number: 09-0703 Department: 09-Street Pay: Entry Rate: $3,145 per month/ $18.14 per hour Post 6-Month Probation: $3,239 per month/ $18.69 per hour Immediate Supervisor: Street Superintendent
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Works as part of a team to maintain and repair public works infrastructure, including streets and street right of ways, streetlights and signs, storm drainage systems and other city facilities. Operates a variety of construction equipment and trucks utilized in construction, maintenance and repair activities; performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks related to public streets, lands or buildings. Position receives supervision in task performance and is expected to show good judgment within established guidelines. The nature of the job will require incumbent to be on call 24 hours a day, to include weekends and holidays as scheduled. EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC WORK PERFORMED:
- Operates equipment including dump trucks, rollers, distributors, skid-steer loader, tractors, mowers, hand and power tools, such as shovels, pickax, sledgehammer and street broom. and other equipment such as front-end loaders, mowers, and street sweeper as assigned.
- Responsible for patching of utility cuts and potholes.
- Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisors; cleans equipment.
- Smooth and finish surfaces of poured concrete, such as floors, walks, sidewalks, roads, or curbs using a variety of hand and power tools.
- Align forms for sidewalks, curbs, or gutters; patch voids; use saws to cut expansion joints.
- Will perform street and alley maintenance and construction projects as required.
- Responsible for clearing debris from streets, alleys and drainage ways, to also include tree trimming and tree removal when necessary.
- Will be actively involved in emergency operations such as monitoring storms and high waters.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
- Ability to transport self from site to site. Ability to operate/drive various types of equipment and vehicles to and from various work sites.
- Ability to work in extreme temperatures, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, twisting, climbing and lifting in order to maintain or repair the Citys right-of-way systems.
- Employee will work with chemicals, mechanical, electrical and traffic hazards.
- Ability to work in trenches and in streets where extreme hazards exist while performing duties.
- Employee is frequently required to perform heavy lifting and carrying of materials weighing up to 100 pounds.
- Employee will be exposed to dirt, dust, noises, fumes, odors, water and mud.
- Employee must be able to walk on slippery, loose, uneven and sloped surfaces.
CONTACT WITH OTHERS: Occasional contact with general public, frequent contact with other employees.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate; minimum of two years experience driving trucks larger than ton. Experience operating other related equipment is desirable.
