As a Systems Engineer, you will be using your skills and expertise to research, architect, model, simulate, test, certify and improve cutting edge products and services. You'll be developing complex system architectures within contextual modeling platforms, ushering them from operational concept through preliminary and detailed design, simulation, and test using progressive tools. As a cross-functional engineer, you are in charge of system-level ownership of new products and processes through the product lifecycle.

Sierra Space is seeking a Sr Principal Systems Engineer - Systems Engineering Lead to join our expanding Space Destinations team. The Systems Engineering Lead will head a team of systems engineers as they develop requirements, model-based system architectures, concepts of operation and facilitate successful development milestones on a novel space system. The successful candidate should possess an enthusiasm for human space missions and should demonstrate the ability to understand and champion a systems viewpoint throughout the product lifecycle while judiciously balancing cost and schedule constraints.

Job duties will include: Defining Systems Engineering vision, strategy and execution in alignment to customer specifications and statements of work (SOW), corporate processes, and functional standards. Providing expertise and leadership implementing sound Systems Engineering processes for the developmental program. Performing technical planning and ensuring quality execution of technical work for the program Systems Engineering team. Management and accounting of program systems engineering control accounts to cost and schedule budgets. Acting as the Systems Engineering technical focal point for internal and customer leadership. Communication of Systems Engineering process, products, and criteria to peers, leadership and customers in electronic, presented and documented forms. Ensuring adequate tools and processes are in place to enable success of the Systems Engineering team. Acting as a thought leader and mentor in the Systems Engineering field.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's of Science degree in STEM or related discipline and typically 14 or more years of relevant experience Progressive experience and demonstrated expertise in a Systems Engineering role for platform-level systems development. Thorough understanding and experience performing requirements management, functional requirements parsing, derivation, and allocation; systems design, systems integration, technical risk identification and management, and Verification and Validation (V&V). Demonstrated experience with Requirements Management and Model Based Systems Engineering tools and techniques, such as DOORS, CAMEO EA, Rhapsody, Matlab and SysML. Ability to work and communicate with technical and specialty subject matter expert engineers to derive and capture requirements and architecture data across a system of systems. Superb communica ion and writing skills. Great attitude with the ability to collaborate effectively on multidisciplinary teams to solve hard problems in a rapid development environment. Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree or higher in related field of study. Typically 4-6 years of relevant experience in a multidisciplinary team leadership role, especially in system development with teams across multiple locations. Experience leading Systems Engineering activities through successful completion of design milestones such as System Requirements Reviews (SRRs), System Functional Reviews (SFRs), and Preliminary and Critical Design Reviews (PDRs and CDRs). Experience as CAM or in a program management function, effectively developing budgets and managing cost and schedule execution, especially on Firm Fixed Price (FFP) contracts.
