As a Senior Project Engineer at BAE-SMS, you have significant responsibility and opportunity to contribute directly to the success of our programs. You will be the individual accountable for managing and delivering a defined and agreed-upon scope of work that meets requirements within cost and schedule commitments. You will lead your team through all program phases, guiding technical discussions, technical collaboration, and making risk-based decisions.

The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers missions. What You ll Do:

  • Technical scope

  • Negotiate, establish, baseline, monitor, and control scope throughout execution, thoroughly understanding the details and full technical breadth of your deliverables.

  • Cost and schedule. To accomplish your team s technical scope-

  • Lead creation of a credible cost and schedule initial estimate and program baseline plan.

  • Capture plan uncertainties in Risk/Opportunity tool.

  • Throughout, perform detailed monitoring and reporting of actual performance against the baseline using formal Earned Value planning, analysis, and reporting tools as well as BAE-SMS internal cost and schedule tools. Proactively address deviations and directing course corrections to keep team activities on plan.

  • Scope, baseline, Risk and Opportunity owner. As accountable owner of your team s scope, cost, and schedule baseline-

  • Continuously monitor and document Risks and Opportunities against the baseline:

  • Gatekeep your team s workscope, protecting against all non-adjudicated scope changes.

  • Continuously communicate uncertainties of your team s ability to meet its requirements within the cost and schedule baseline.

  • Through program team collaboration, proactively develop mitigations and workarounds for Risks while developing approaches to enable realization of Opportunities.

  • Accomplish your team s scope using the combined capabilities of BAE-SMS

  • Understand company resources and processes.

  • Ensure that all resources needed are available to support your plan.

  • Subcontracts and supplier management

  • Lead your team in obtaining necessary elements from external suppliers, overseeing management of these critical activities to ensure that all technical requirements are met within cost and schedule agreements.

  • Communication leader. Working to make sure that all stakeholders have the information they need.

  • Continuously identifying and repairing gaps and disconnects within your team, the program team, business area, suppliers, and customers.

  • Throughout execution, negotiate Roles and Responsibilities, ensuring they are understood and teams are aligned.

  • Work with your peers and managers on the program leadership team to monitor and improve Program tools, business rhythm, and reporting practices.

  • Team leadership and management. Working with functional organizations and the program team, you will assemble and manage your team to accomplish your workscope.

  • Directing team activities to meet commitments within Cost and Schedule baseline, monitoring ongoing performance, making course corrections, and providing technical direction.

  • Creating a supportive environment.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.

  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.

  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 10 or more years of related experience.

  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.

  • Ability to obtain a TS/SCI with Polygraph is required.

  • Experience with BAE-SMS Aeronautical/ Aerospace technology through program work for NASA, NIS, and/or DoD customers.

  • Proven technical breadth and depth to understand the complexities of technical disciplines involved in the project.

  • Experience on multiple programs, leading teams with scope, cost, and schedule responsibility with budgets exceeding $15M and/or staff size of 20 or more.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish, estimate, baseline, and manage your team s workscope, technical deliverables, cost, and schedule performance through all program phases.

  • Familiarity with range of programmatic planning and reporting tools

  • Control Account Management (CAM) experience and skills. Experience with all elements of Earned Value Management System: cost/schedule integrated plan creation, management, analysis, and reporting.

  • Subcontract management. Proven experience in management of aerospace industry suppliers.

  • Identifying suppliers, make/buy decisions, proposal evaluation, and authoring of effective contractual documents including SOWs and specs. Managing subcontractor performance throughout their period of performance while proactively addressing technical and programmatic issues.

  • Demonstrated ability in written and verbal communication. As communication is a foundational Project Engineering skillset, you must have extensive experience authoring, leading, and briefing business and technical communications.

  • Ability to filter and target information appropriately to each audience.

  • Sophisticated skills in messaging, especially to management and customers.

  • Ability to influence without authority.

  • Presentations to audiences large and small, company internal, and external

  • Collaboration leader.

  • Establishment of workshare, roles, and responsibilities.

  • Tool and process improvement mindset. As a leader within the company, you will help continuously improve tools and processes, working constructively to make us better and more efficient.

A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $146670 - $249330

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
