The Director of Engineering Architecture is responsible for leading and maturing the Enterprise Architecture capability within our critical lines of business at MKS Instruments (MKS). These lines of business include our Materials Solutions Division (MSD), Vacuum Services Division (VSD), and our Photonics Solutions Division (PSD) specifically. Ensuring the development and continuous improvement of the overall Engineering Architecture framework while leading both direct and matrixed architects to deliver and execute architecture in collaboration with multiple stakeholders through the facilitation of target-state designs, current state assessments, and facilitation of roadmaps to achieve business objectives. This position currently reports to the VP of IT Infrastructure.

You will be accountable for business results primarily achieved through the work of others. Manages staff, sets standards and direction, and deploys resources. Has responsibility for employee development, performance reviews, pay reviews, and staffing decisions. Also accountable for business, functional or operational areas, processes, or programs.

You Will Make an Impact By: Developing and maintaining a comprehensive enterprise architecture framework, standards, governance principles, and provides strategic guidance on technology acquisition and lifecycle management. Leading managers, architects, and IT professionals through guidance, coaching, and support to ensure assignments are completed in accordance with established guidelines, policies, standards, and procedures. Understands the overall organizational vision and translates it into team goals aligned with departmental and organizational goals. Collaborating and providing strategic guidance to key stakeholders, department heads, and senior executive management on enterprise architecture and technology-related matters including risks, opportunities, potential impacts, and prioritization. Ensures IT Architecture and associated technology solutions are in place to meet business objectives and is able to respond with agility to changing business priorities, Facilitating the creation and informs the enterprise architecture strategy with actionable roadmaps, to include emerging technologies, trends, and various architectural perspectives (e.g., business, information/data, application, technology and security) Maintaining a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement and leads teams through periods of change and transformation. Oversees the planning, design, implementation, and measurement of IT systems and ensures a balance between growing the agility required to achieve business objectives and ensuring core IT functions are reliable, stable, secure and efficient. Providing guidance on the implementation of large or complex projects and oversees progression while ensuring the department program portfolio is managed effectively through governance and planning processes. Engages in initiatives as needed to facilitate the realization of value and work with sponsorship to evaluate the achievement of value. Managing the department budget and financial resources including but not limited to technology services, software, hardware, and expense tracking ensuring the most effective use to maximize outcomes. Maintaining an awareness of emerging technologies, industry trends, and regulatory changes, and provides direction on which emerging technologies should be introduced, integrated, and assimilated to improve operational effectiveness and manage risk. Participates in the evaluation and selection of vendors, review of contracts and management of vendor relationships to ensure cost-effective and reliable IT services and solutions. Partners effectively with 3rd party service firms in support of the MKS agenda and as enablers to the broader IT strategy. Partners effectively with Portfolio Management, Agile CoE, P oduct Management, IT Security, Supply Chain, Legal, and the broader IT Architecture community. Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders on the development of the technology capability roadmap. Collaborates on the development of IT policies, procedures, and standards, ensuring they are up to date and in line with area of responsibility and industry standards. Ensures compliance with established policies, procedures, and standards. Collaborates with management on the design of an organizational structure and operating model to meet business objectives. Leads the organizational change initiatives, ensuring smooth transition with minimal disruption. Responsible for recruitment, development, retention, performance management, and succession planning that will lead to a strong talent pipeline.

Skills You Bring: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or other computer-related degree required. 12+ years of diversified IT experience required. 5+ years of IT Engineering required. 5+ years managing first level leaders and high-level professional staff required. 6 + years of experience in technical IT architect capacity preferred. 3+ years of experience leading and managing an Enterprise Architecture function preferred Experience in designing and implementing scalable and secure solutions preferred. Familiarity with cloud technologies, microservices architecture, and emerging technologies such as generative AI and its applications preferred. Familiarity with Enterprise Architecture tools, CICD tools, DevOps and DevSecOps, SDLC, graphical modeling approaches, and repository management preferred. Knowledge of business models, operating models, financial models, cost/benefit tradeoff analysis, risk management, business ecosystems, to include "as a service" preferred. Knowledge of electronics manufacturing, including industry related standards
