COMPENSATION
Salary Range:
Transit Railcar Tech Specialist I - $73,878 - $96,395
Transit Railcar Tech Specialist II - $87,701 - $110,411
Transit Railcar Tech Specialist III - $104,266 - $125,964
Transit Railcar Tech Specialist IV - $116,636 - $137,501
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will assist other engineers with the engineering review and approval, and inspection and testing of new Work Cars and other specialized rolling stock, as well as providing support for the existing work car fleets to satisfy user department requirements for safe reliable, and efficient operating equipment. The incumbent will assist other engineers to plan, coordinate, implement, and review contractor's submittals related to mechanical or electrical systems and the design of Work Equipment. Duties will also include reviewing engineering analyses, prototypes of mechanical or electrical systems, sub-systems, and components, design modifications, qualification, and acceptance tests, witnessing testing, analyzing tests results, and conducting inspections in the field and at vendors' sites. Additionally, duties include developing technical specifications, detailing work scopes, equipment performance, quality standards, manuals, procedures, and engineering drawings,
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, plus:
(a) Two years of full time satisfactory experience performing one of the following:
(i) Specialized work reviewing the design of railcars of moderate complexity; or
(ii) Supervising and inspecting the installation of electronic and/or electromechanical railcar components; or
(iii) Preparing plans and technical specifications for railcar equipment subsystems; and
(b) Four years of full time satisfactory experience as a fully trained mechanic in one or a combination of the following fields:
(i) Railroad power-operated railcar engineering and repair; or Supervision of railcar maintenance, manufacture or installation; OR
A four year vocational/technical high school diploma with a major sequence of courses in electrical, mechanical or electronic technology, or a closely related field, plus two years of full time satisfactory experience described in "1 (a)" above and three years of the full time satisfactory experience described in "1 (b)" above; OR
An associate degree from an accredited college with a major sequence of courses in electrical, mechanical, civil, transportation or computer engineering or electrical/electronic technology, plus two years of the full time satisfactory experience described in "1 (a)" above, and two years of the full time satisfactory experience described in "1 (b)" above; OR
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with a major sequence of courses as described in "3" above, plus two years of the full time satisfactory experience described in "1 (a)" above; OR
A master's degree from an accredited college in one of the major fields described in "3" above plus one year of the full time satisfactory experience described in "1 (a)" above.
DESIRED SKILLS:
Knowledge of work car and freight cars, systems and components.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and Access.
Experience with CAD software ( e.g . Auto CAD, Microstatio n , Solid Edge, SolidWorks).
Ability to visit field locations on a 24 hour , 7 day/week basis in the performance of assigned tasks. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
