Part Time Faculty, Social Justice Praxis Lab (71103)Location: Brooklyn, NYDescription:The Department of Social Science and Cultural Studies at Pratt Institute is calling for applicants towards the Fall 2024 semester to join our part-time faculty community. The Social Science and Cultural Studies program is home to an interdisciplinary major and several minors, and serves the Institute by providing courses towards Pratt's General Education core and post-core curriculum.The SSCS department is looking for an instructor to teach one section of the course Social Justice Praxis Lab at Pratt's Brooklyn campus in Fall 2024. Pratt's Social Justice Praxis Lab course meets once per week for three hours. The section is scheduled to meet on Tuesdays from 2PM-4:50PM.Social Justice Praxis Lab:Focusing on the fine arts of resistance, this class is situated at the overlap of social justice and social practice. Collectively we will consider the possibilities and limitations of an engaged artistic and design practice through case studies, lectures, workshops, and reflections upon our own public interventions. Our explorations will integrate theoretical investigation with critical methodological approaches, engaging personal and political perspectives. Placing emphasis upon collective process and community-building as foundational to social justice and social practice work, students will develop a final public project.Qualifications:Minimum requirements include:A Masters degree in a relevant field is required. ABD, PhD, or terminal degree preferred.
