New York University MAE Tenure Track faculty Position in Brooklyn, New York

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (https://engineering.nyu.edu/academics/departments/mechanical-and-aerospace-engineering) at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering invites applications for a tenure track position, at the level of Assistant/Associate Professor, with a start date of September 1, 2025.

· We encourage applications from candidates with expertise and interest in establishing research programs with an emphasis on, but not limited to, the broad area of Design and Manufacturing. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • AI-driven design optimization of materials and manufacturing processes

  • Multi-material printing and biofabrication for biomedical devices, wearable electronics, or personalized medical implants

  • Machine learning integrated with physics-based models for optimizing manufacturing processes

  • Digital twins and cyber-physical systems

  • Robotics for manufacturing

  • Quantum computing in manufacturing.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline. Candidates must demonstrate clear potential for scholarship, leadership, curricular innovation, and obtaining extramural funding. All candidates must demonstrate or show potential for excellence in teaching and mentoring.

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at MAE at NYU Tandon educates future engineers who develop the physical systems and devices that modern society demands, from automobiles to air conditioning, prosthetic limbs to autonomous machines, and rocket engines to satellites. Our faculty are breaking new ground in fluid and thermal systems, controls and robotic systems, and computer-integrated mechanical and electromechanical systems, the modeling and simulation of complex systems, among other areas. Recent research has led to breakthroughs in lightweight new protective materials with applications in national defense, sports medicine, and transportation; robots that aid in the education of children with autism; technological methods of leading wildlife away from danger areas; aspects of complex urban systems that impact how people live and work in dense urban environment

Additional Information

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary (for 9-month) range for this position is $120,000 - $180,000 for the Assistant Professor rank and $135,000 - $205,000 for the Associate Professor rank. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer
