RiseBoro Homecare Inc. Code Compliance Specialist in BROOKLYN, New York

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the general supervision of the Code Compliance Manager, the Code Compliance Specialist is responsible for assisting with all aspects of violation removal and code compliance for all RiseBoro Management Corporation (RBMC) managed properties, including and not limited to hearing representation, collaborating with property management team to prepare for HPD inspections, research and preparing all necessary paperwork and steps to clear violations, and along with the Asset Management and Property Management teams, develop and implement a proactive plan to prevent violations across the RBMC managed portfolio. Specific Responsibilities include:

  • Track all HPD and tenant violations on RiseBoro buildings and coordinate necessary work until their abatement, certification of completion, and closeout are attained

  • Proactively ensure any violations received are corrected and certified promptly

  • Monitor all Jack Jaffa alerts and coordinate with appropriate property management teams to generate emergency repairs and requests

  • Assist the Code Compliance Manager in tracking all FDNY certifications held by RiseBoro Management Corporation (RBMC) staff and track/schedule renewal testing

  • Contact vendors related to mold, lead paint, ironwork & appliance repair, or replacement to complete work orders for any Class A, B, and C violations timely

  • Engage with tenants to track the progression of work related to the timely removal/resolution of violations

  • Prepare reports as required such as monthly violation reports

  • Provide city agencies such as HPD, NYCHA, DOB & DHCR with required documents of correction of violations via a certificate of correction,

  • e-certification, dismissal request

  • Conduct visual inspections of properties to comply with HPD & FDNY code laws

  • Renew Multiple Dwelling Registration (MDR) for all RiseBoro properties

  • Prepare and review documents received from Property Management staff before submitting information to legal

  • Obtain bank-certified checks per city agency requests fee or violation payments remitted in person

  • Create work orders to address violations as needed

  • Attend scheduled tenant meetings and events with NYPD, City agencies, community councils, and other local institutions to address community and RiseBoro concerns

  • Other related duties as assigned by the Manager

  • Working knowledge of Section 8, (NYCHA and HPD) DHCR, Rent Stabilization Law, Rent Guidelines Board, and Fair Housing

  • Ability to interact effectively with applicants, tenants, and all levels of staff and management

  • Flexibility, creativity, and initiative to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to effectively multi-task, follow up processes, and use independent judgment to produce quality work on time

  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting communities that have experienced systemic oppression and bias (i.e., people of color, LGBTQ+ people, immigrants, justice-involved persons, etc.)

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • 1 - 3 years of related work experience preferred

  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Property Manager is a plus
