Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Senior Director, Recognition and Stewardship in Brookline, Massachusetts
The Senior Director, Recognition and Stewardship works collaboratively as a member of the Division of Philanthropy to assist their manager, the Assistant Vice President of Donor Experience & Engagement, with coordination of donor recognition and stewardship strategy, policy, and programs for VIP donor base consisting of individual, foundation, corporate, and historic donors. Responsible for assisting the entire Division with reaching financial goals. Will also take direction and guidance from the Senior Vice President, Chief Philanthropy Officer and the Associate Vice President, Campaigns and Donor Experience & Engagement.
The onboarding of this role will include a comprehensive training process which includes completion of online modules, shadowing colleagues, as well as hands-on learning experiences throughout the first calendar year in the role.

This position is considered remote, 0-1 days onsite at 10 Brookline Place, Brookline, MA each week. DFCI guidelines state that employees must reside in New England: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, or Vermont.

Lead cultivation, recognition, and stewardship strategies for transformational, principal, and major donors and constituencies, and oversee implementation of all components, in coordination with the Chief Philanthropy Officer and senior management group.
Oversee all recognition and stewardship policies for the Division of Philanthropy and manage exception requests from donors. Evaluate current policies and recommend updates that will support Dana-Farber’s future strategic initiatives and campaigns.
Assess donor impact and effectiveness of all recognition and stewardship programs; monitor and benchmark practices of peer institutions; and propose program enhancements, as needed.
Oversee Dana-Farber’s gift agreements process and draft highly technical, complex gift agreements.
Manage donor naming and giving opportunities including centers, programs, and departments; named space, signage, and recognition displays across our campuses; named faculty positions; funds for faculty support, research, and capital projects; and opportunities to support future strategic initiatives.
Oversee the gift acknowledgement process for all major/Trustee/VIP gifts and the financial reporting process for all endowed funds in collaboration with the Associate Director.
Manage the recognition-related budget process for Donor Experience & Engagement; provide counsel to teams on their recognition budgets; accountable for executing all recognition projects within budget and on time, and for securing the best value from vendors.
Oversee all stewardship writing for the President and CEO. Review gift announcements, executive correspondence, and Philanthropy event speaking points.
Act as the main Philanthropy liaison with Harvard Medical School.
Provide supervision, training, professional development, and growth opportunities for staff.
Assume other duties as necessary.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises a team of 13, including three direct reports: one Director, one Associate Director, and one Assistant Director.
High school diploma or equivalency required; Bachelor’s degree preferred. 8+ years’ relevant work experience, preferably in a Philanthropy setting.
Previous direct report and personnel management experience required.
Philanthropy, volunteer, and direct donor contact experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Superior writing/editing, managerial, project management, and change management skills required
Strong customer service, verbal communications, and donor recognition and stewardship knowledge/background required
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail required
Experience writing and/or negotiating complex agreements or contracts strongly preferred
Experience navigating complex and highly matrixed organizations strongly preferred
Must be effective in working with wide audiences, including the highest level of Dana-Farber constituents and senior members of Dana-Farber leadership
