As a Principal Metrology Engineer you will be asked to develop and maintain relationships with engineering, suppliers, and metrology customers to address metrology needs. Communicate results and solutions in an effective and efficient manner for metrology projects. Overall Support in the Quality Lab – Programming, Inspections, Analysis, Testing, Documentation, and Record Keeping. Metrology Lab Support for Engineering and Manufacturing in measuring, and testing of parts, and components. Track Metrology, and Inspection Projects, and Report on Status. Foster a positive, collaborative environment throughout the organization.

Direct Responsibilities:

  • Design and Develop Vision Systems - Design, develop, and implement vision systems for a diverse range of products.

  • Algorithm Design - Create and optimize vision algorithms using computer vision, image processing, and machine learning techniques.

  • Collaboration - Work with cross-functional teams to ensure vision systems meet product specifications and requirements.

  • Research and Development - Conduct research and stay updated on the latest advancements in machine vision technology.

  • Technical Troubleshooting - Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to vision systems.

  • Documentation - create and maintain documentation for vision systems, including specifications, test plans, and reports.

  • Safety and Compliance - Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations in all aspects of machine vision design and implementation.

  • Supplier Collaboration - Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to source and integrate components for vision systems.

  • Testing and Validation - Perform testing and validation of vision systems to ensure accuracy and reliability.

  • Stakeholder Engagement - Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support the successful implementation of vision systems.

  • Mentorship - Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers in the area of machine vision.

  • System Improvement - Continuously evaluate and improve existing vision systems to enhance performance and efficiency.

  • Project Communication - Participate in meetings and presentations to communicate project updates and results.

  • Resource Management - Adhere to project timelines and budgets, and effectively manage resources.

Design Assistance and Training:

  • Participates in design reviews with cross-functional teams to ensure that conformance to specifications, Design for inspection, reliability, and quality system objectives are met.

  • Work from written or verbal instructions, detailed engineering drawings, and 3D models to establish inspection criteria and measurement implementation.

  • Maintains adequate training in metrology disciplines to ensure capability to lead team and train others as needed.

Metrology Department Management:

  • Management of Inspection and Metrology Programs

  • Calibration Standards and Maintenance of Calibration System

  • Measurement Standards and Procedures Development and Maintenance

  • Metrology Lab Certification and Audit Programs

  • Supervise Metrology Lab Technicians

Qualifications:

  • College or Technical degree in a field related to Engineering or Science

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in Metrology Lab Environment

  • Proficient in set-up and operation of inspection equipment

  • Proficient in Gauge R&R and test method validation

  • Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5

  • Proficient in mathematical applications- Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, etc.

Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills.

  • Knowledge of mechanical inspection methods, and tools used to determine product acceptance.

  • Ability to investigate and learn new technologies within metrology.

  • Must be willing to travel up to 30% of the time.

  • Ability to work independently on routine tasks with high attention to detail.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Strong oral and written English communication.

  • An ability to work cross functionally and promote good working relationships with other teams, to determine priorities, state challenges productively, and problem solve.
