The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for managing multiple moderate to highly complex engineering projects with minimal direction. Individuals in this position will provide project management and necessary technical direction to assure successful and timely implementation of projects.

As a Project Engineer at Milwaukee Tool Accessories, you will work in a dynamic, cross-functional environment, collaborating daily with your peers across Project Management, Engineering, Quality, Product Management, Operations, and Supply Chain. In order to move fast and stay connected with your on-site peers, this position is on-premises. It is not a remote position.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Leads moderate to high complexity projects or projects with moderate item (SKU) count. This includes next generation of existing products, new to Milwaukee, or new to world products, with oversight of department leader.

  • Potential to lead supplier diversification projects or other non-new product development (NPD) related projects as needed.

  • Responsible for the completion of assigned engineering projects within budgetary and scheduling guidelines.

  • Communicates, both verbal and written, to assure all groups are working toward the goal of timely project completion. Communicate technical details, ideas, and concepts to engineers and non-engineers in multiple locations.

  • Drive design of project to meet market driven design guides and fulfill cost, timing, reliability, and high-volume manufacturing requirements.

  • Identify project risks and implement risk reduction plans.

  • Analyze, evaluate, and select from design execution alternatives to best meet specification objectives and implement designs into mass production.

  • Accountable for technical elements of project execution including integration of complicated components and assemblies, material selection, packaging, safety, regulatory and standards compliance.

  • Conduct design and safety reviews as needed to gain necessary approvals for product development phase progressions.

  • Comply with all internal Milwaukee Tool procedures covering new product development and design output in addition to procedures of non-engineering departments related to project flow.

  • Consistently visualizes entire scope of a project with very little guidance.

  • Schedules, develops agendas, facilitates, and documents project meetings.

  • Tracks project schedule to ensure adherence to timelines.

  • Regularly makes presentations of project status.

  • May occasionally recommend changes to existing standards and procedures.

  • Maintains an awareness of competitive offerings and the general business climate in the power tool industry.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Interacts extensively with manufacturing plants and outside suppliers to achieve project goals.

  • Makes component material or process recommendations.

  • Leads a cross functional team in the development of custom high output capabilities for advanced performance power tool accessories, including specialized manufacturing equipment, with oversight of department leader.

  • Designs new experiments and test systems.

  • Exhibits vision and foresight to test the extremes of a design and guide the team members through well thought out, logical test regimes.

  • Directs moderate to high complexity design optimization and root cause analysis to generate design alternatives.

  • Perform various other duties to support the larger business needs as assigned and directed by management.

What TOOLS you’ll bring with you:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or educational equivalent is required. Preferred degree in Mechanical Engineering. PMP certification is a plus but not required.

  • Minimum of 4-6 years of relevant working experience.

  • Ability to travel internationally and domestically several times of year is required (10% travel).

  • Ability to manage several simultaneous projects is required.

  • Highly developed Mechanical aptitude is required including a broad knowledge of engineering materials used in small appliances or power tools, and an understanding of the manufacturing processes associated with these materials.

  • Working knowledge of CAD is required. NX experience is preferred.

  • To be successful in this role you will need to be a self-starter who has a strong problem-solving skill set and understands design, testing, and manufacturing processes (grinding, stamping, heat treatment, functional coatings, machining, etc).

  • Able to provide a basic overview of upcoming workload and identify potential resource bottlenecks.

  • Basic understanding of various cost drivers associated with materials, labor and overhead is required.

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software including Microsoft Project.
