Sr Design Engineer

Job Description:

Senior Design Engineers – Outdoor Power Equipment

Job duties:

  • Use highly developed engineering expertise and project management abilities to contribute to the design and development of new products and support of existing products within the Power Tools department.

  • Serve as a chief technical resource and mechanical engineering leader on mid/high complexity Power Tool New Product Development projects.

  • Develop design solutions to meet consumer requirements.

  • Conduct field research to understand end user needs. Translate end user needs into concrete engineering specifications.

  • Facilitate project flow involving regular contact with manufacturing and other cross-functional team members.

  • Provide clear engineering information to Project Leaders and the Global Engineering teams facilitating trade off decisions.

  • Interact with suppliers to develop part/product specifications that meet performance requirements while falling within process capabilities.

  • Evaluate product design relative to material selection, cost, and reliability.

  • Mechanical stress analysis, material and heat treatment selection, tolerance and fit analyses, lubrication, spur and helical gear design, statics and dynamics, noise and vibration and a variety of machine element design.

  • Establish test regimens for components and assemblies within area of scope in the project with minimal guidance. Deliver complete data analysis to support design recommendations.

  • Independently develop, write, and analyze testing reports in internal laboratory.

  • Serve as a technical resource on areas of expertise and provide consultation/mentorship to others.

  • May serve as front line manager to mechanical designers and mechanical design engineers.

  • Plan and track projects to work-breakdown-structure and project schedule.

  • Execute a wide variety of calculations and software aided analyses in the following areas: fluid dynamics, electromechanical system thermodynamics, mechanical stress analysis, multi-body dynamics/drop test simulations, tolerance stack analyses, gearing design, sound and vibration/response of dynamic systems, and mechanism development and analysis.

Job Requirements:

Master's or equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics or related engineering field and 2 years of design experience or Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics or related engineering field and 5 years of design experience. Experience must include:

  • 3D CAD (ProE, Solidworks, or NX).

  • Finite Element Analysis.

  • Fluid dynamics, 1D flow analysis, or computational fluid dynamics.

  • Electromechanical system thermodynamics.

  • Mechanical stress analysis.

  • Multi-body dynamics/drop test simulations.

  • Tolerance stack analyses.

  • Gearing design.

  • Sound and vibration/response of dynamic systems.

  • Mechanism development and analysis.

Ability to travel up to 10% domestically and internationally.
