Actalent Materials Engineer in Brookfield, Wisconsin

Job Title: Materials EngineerJob Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Materials Engineer to perform sample preparation and materials/metallurgical testing. The role involves utilizing various testing methods, compiling data for failure analysis, and maintaining laboratory equipment in a clean and safe environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform sample preparation for materials and metallurgical testing.

  • Conduct materials and metallurgical testing, including polishing, chemical etchants, ultrasonic cleaning, magnetic particle inspection, hardness, and microhardness testing.

  • Utilize metallurgical microscopes and stereoscopes to determine hardness.

  • Compile testing data to determine failure analysis results and share data with other departments.

  • Utilize image analysis software to review materials before and after testing.

  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment and ensure the proper upkeep of laboratory equipment.

Essential Skills

  • Materials Science

  • Metallurgy

  • 3-5 years of experience in materials testing, specifically metals testing

  • Failure Analysis

  • SEM Microscopy

  • EDS Microscopy

  • Materials Engineering

  • Hardness Testing

  • Microstructure Analysis

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Associate degree in Material Science, Material Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related field

  • Experience with failure analysis testing

Work Environment

This position is based at a large office with a specific materials testing lab. The work environment includes a supervisor and a team of three to four technicians. The role involves interaction with other engineers on various projects, requiring strong communication skills. This is a 1st shift position starting around 7:00 a.m., with some flexibility. The standard workweek is approximately 40 hours, with potential for overtime if needed.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.85 - $43.27
