Under the direction of and reporting to the Engineering Manager, plans, organizes, coordinates, and executes machine controls development activities while problem solving machine process and integration requirements; and performs other related duties as assigned. The AMT Engineer candidate should have a broad understanding of electrical controls and wiring, PLC programming, safety systems, and multi axis motion controllers, as these skillsets will be used in combination to successfully accomplish the required responsibilities. Ability to travel to manufacturing sites to transition machine development operating knowledge from to AMT.

Duties:

  • Participate as a member of the department's engineering team in the development of new manufacturing equipment, integration, and improvement initiatives to support advanced manufacturing initiatives.

  • Work cooperatively with Production teams, Manufacturing Engineering staff, and Operations PL's to ensure a schedule attainment is achieved and robust documentation is provided for the assigned tasks to create a successful transition of machine development activities into a manufacturing setting.

  • Knowledge of the concepting and design of machine electrical controls solutions, safety system integration, schematics development, bill of material development, procurement, panel building and wiring, on machine wiring, programming, and commissioning activities.

  • Strong motion control and synchronized motion programming skills.

  • Knowledge of electrical schematics development using CAD.

  • Integration skillset including, but not limited to: PLC’s, HMI’s, servo and VFD drives, industrial robots, machine vision and inspection systems, laser marking and welding, material handling and feeding systems, and safety light curtain and area scanners.

  • Awareness of NEC, NFPA 79, NFPA 70E, ANSI B11, and ANSI R15.

  • Identify and use new technologies and controls strategies to develop robust leading edge controls solutions as well as integrate existing controls platforms.

  • Emphasis on Allen Bradley PLC’s and HMI’s.

  • Identify and work with outside technical resources for machine development activities when appropriate.

  • Work with and lead development with component and equipment suppliers to deliver custom controls solutions to achieve goals and objectives when appropriate.

  • Make formal presentations regarding project status, development activities and collaborative efforts.

  • Create, maintain, and package robust documentation packages for responsible deployment of developed equipment, cells, and lines. Work with manufacturing team to verify alignment regarding collected information and support the pre-production activities for processes.

Requirements:

  • Requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in engineering or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.

  • Travel Ability to travel domestically and internationally for machine and/or concept evaluations. Estimated yearly travel: 25%. Most trips will be contained into 1 week with possibilities of weekend travel.
