Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey and Westchester County including emergency, transitional and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program.

Position: Program Director
The Program Director will oversee the development, implementation, and management of a new program that provides vocational rehabilitation and workforce development services to individuals with disabilities. This position will lead the program's strategy, ensure compliance with relevant regulations, coordinate resources, and collaborate with community partners to support individuals with disabilities in securing meaningful employment. The Program Director will also provide guidance and leadership to a staff team and work closely with stakeholders to maximize the program's impact.
Career Access program is a community outreach initiative designed to offer vocational rehabilitation services to individuals with disabilities.
Location: 424 East 147th Street, 1st floor Bronx, NY 10455
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience in program management, preferably in workforce development for individuals with disabilities.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, with experience managing staff, volunteers, and diverse groups of participants.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and motivate individuals with disabilities, build partnerships, and advocate for program goals. - Proven track record in project planning, implementation, and evaluation, focusing on result-oriented approaches.
- Ability to independently prioritize tasks and adapt to changing circumstances in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility to work some early evening hours to accommodate client needs is required.
Program Director Principal Responsibilities:
- Program leadership
- Develop and implement the Career Access Program's mission, vision, and strategic goals.
- Lead day-to-day operations of the program, ensuring quality services are delivered to participants.
- Manage program staff, providing leadership, supervision, training, and professional development.
- Ensure program activities align with the needs of individuals with disabilities and reflect best practices in vocational rehabilitation and workforce development.
- Monitor program progress, evaluate effectiveness, and make adjustments to ensure program success.
- Manage Program Personnel
- Lead recruitment and selection of suitable candidates for vacant positions
- Facilitate the onboarding and training of new employees to ensure a smooth integration into the organization and provide/connect new employees with the necessary training for their job roles.
- Create a motivating work environment, recognizing and rewarding achievements and promoting employee engagement and satisfaction.
- Provide clear and timely communication regarding goals, expectations, and changes and promote transparency within the team
- Participant guidance and support:
- Provide mentorship, personalized coaching and support to program participants, offering guidance on career pathways, goal setting, and personal development by addressing individual needs.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment to promote teamwork, accountability, and mutual respect among the participants.
- Partnership Development and Outreach:
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with local employers, industry organizations, educational institutions, and community agencies to create employment opportunities and secure resources for the program.
- Collaborate with external partners to develop internships, apprenticeships, and job placement opportunities for program graduates.
- Represent the program at community events, conferences, and meetings to raise awareness and build support for program initiatives.
- Reporting and Evaluation:
- Prepare regular reports on program activities, participant progress, and outcomes for funders, stakeholders, and organizational leadership.
- Conduct ongoing evaluation and assessment of program effectiveness, utilizing data and feedback to drive continuous improvement efforts.
- Ensure compliance with grant requirements, reporting deadlines, and regulatory standards.
